  Memories of a long passed Flick Off

  It seems like eons have passed since those days when the Ontario government urged people to flick off and radio call-in shows were burning up over those new fandangled lightbulbs. For today, barely a year later, Canada - well, a good chunk of it - is preparing to hurtle itself into a web of insanity.
  
  When the Prime Minister looked for le bon mot to describe the effects of the Dion Carbon Tax, he told us it would screw us all: that would be the year's most epic understatement for once it screwed us, it would mash us into a paupery pulp.
  
  Liberals are promising to impose a carbon tariff at our borders. Free trade will be finished. Consumers will be further buried under a mountain of government-rigged pricing. And the "pick and choose" strategy the Liberals promise will send a signal of signal incoherence to our trading partners across the world.
  
  Worse, the "pick and choose" tariff will be, like everything else in the carbon tax re-engineering, a classic example of the global warming scam being perpetrated by politicians, journalists and a powerful coalition of multinational environmental lobby groups. The tariff will only make passing reference to carbon emissions - the real purpose will be to shift trade away from the United States in favor of China. Stephane Dion won't reap environmental credits from the plan, he'll reap anti-american credits from the plan. In fact, his carbon tariff will SHIFT trade from local trading partners (NAFTA) to overseas trading partners, thus killing the planet a little harder.
