They exposed their backsides and sexual organs to Palestinians, pressed an electric heater to the face of a young boy, beat young boys senseless, recorded everything on their mobile phones and sent it to their friends. One of their “mischievous acts” was to test how long a Palestinian who was being choked could survive without breathing. When he passed out, the experiment was stopped. The soldiers described activities to “break the routine” that consisted entirely of abuse. It was enough for a boy “to look at us the wrong way” for him to be beaten.

US to Israel: Avoid Gaza humanitarian crisis.

Israel to world: We won’t let it become a humanitarian crisis.

Egypt to world: It is a humanitarian crisis.

A humanitarian crisis is underway as the Gaza Strip’s only power plant began to shut down on Sunday, and the tiny coastal territory entered its third full day without shipments of vital food and fuel supplies due to Israel’s punitive sanctions.

Palestinians in Gaza will be forced to live without electricity eight hours a day, beginning Sunday, because Israel has sharply reduced fuel supplies to the territory’s only electric plant, the head of Gaza’s energy authority said.

If countries like Canada, the United States, and Israel, were not participating in a joint western holier than thou laying on of economic sanctions against the people of a country for not democratically electing the government that countries like Canada, the United States, and Israel wanted them to democratically elect…..

Israel is unhappy that a British lecturers union boycotting Israel’s academic institutions, and they had my sympathy right up until Professor Uriel Reichman opened his yop.

As soon as ‘the enemy’ has been effectively demonized by a government there is, as Abu Ghraib has proven, really no depths to which it cannot, and will not, sink.

Aboriginal Canadians remember the government assimilation programs, the Japanese remember Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Jewish people remember the Holocaust, Americans remember 9/11, and, on May 15, Palestinians remember Nakba - the disaster.

Of course they “regret” the loss of life, of course there will be an “investigation”, and that will be the end of it - they are no better than those they say they are fighting against…. Fortunately, at least so far, Stephen Harper has managed to keep his mouth shut about this one - lets hope that lasts, the last thing we need is one more embarrassing follow the leader out of him.

A couple of things that made me scratch my head and wonder why……

A few more bad apples? You might think so except for the wording, to have a “substantial increase” in beating, abuse, and humiliation of Palestinians you have to have beating, abuse, and humiliation of Palestinians to build upon.

Dryden thinks Harper is some kind of “Mini-Me” on the international affairs stage. The accusation has more than some truth to it.
