Blogging is tough in the summer, there’s just so darned much to do. In about 60 minutes (maybe less) I’m pointing the bike west for the week-end and will only be online for very brief periods during that time - back some time on Monday… until then, play nice :-)

The United States tortures prisoners in violation of international law, former President Carter said Wednesday.
“I don’t think it. I know it,” Carter told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer.
Surprising Joint Statement by Hillary Clinton and John McCain
Transcript, Courtland Place Hotel Media Centre, Washington DC 090507 0712
Senator Clinton: Good morning. Thanks for coming at such short notice. This all came about quite suddenly, and I’m afraid we didn’t have much time to get this conference ready, so we really appreciate your showing up. Senator McCain, do you want to start?
The Folly Of It All
The CBC, and many hockey fans I know personally, are lamenting the Habs being tossed out of the play-offs by the Philadelphia Flyers last night on — oh the horror — Canadian home ice no less.
About That Gun Control Thing
People in the UK live under what Wikipedia describes as “some of the strictest gun legislation in the world” yet according to an article in the Daily Express, last year there were “9,967 gun-related crimes, a rise of 373 on 2006″.
RIP Albert Hofmann
The bunker, as a rule, is not very big on R.I.P. posts - but Albert Hofmann is gonna be an exception.

Land Claims For Dummies 2: Behind the Nunavut Claim
The Nunavut Land Claims Agreement provides a good example of a modern-day treaty, and illustrates both the lofty principles that underlie the notion of a nation-to-nation treaty between Canada and its first peoples, and the disappointing aftermath. It’s also instructive because many insist that claims and treaties are “old obligations”, historical relics. Not so. The largest land claim in Canadian history was signed (by a Conservative Prime Minister) just fifteen years ago.
I Has Returned
4 days in the north ain’t quite long enough :-) The weather was nice, between 0 and -10 degrees the whole time, a bit windy at times, but nothing that prevented a walk home from the arena. The hockey was great, seeing friends equally great, but the bonus was the birth of second grand daughter Karra Saturday night… now it’s back to playing catch up, I hear the CPoC has some woes.
Home Again
Back from a week in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, sans internet, doing real world real stuff. Blogging is just blogging; sometimes I need to be reminded of that.
Gone For A Few Days
I’m on a plane in a few hours, headed for Baffin Island for some rest, relaxation, and a bit of grounding. Connectivity is not great there, and I’ll be busy socializing with friends and relatives anyways, so posting will be lite until I return on Monday.
Like Ivory Snow Soap, We’re 92% Pure
We were accused the other day of being “foul-mouthed”. Apparently not.
