The Toronto Star is running a poll asking the question “Should Canada support the U.S. missile defence program?” At 11:10EST this is what it looked like.
Browsing Ballistic Missile Shield™
Why Not ‘Eh?
Wind ‘em up George, it’s good for industry, the military ones anyway, and who knows, this time the US might spend itself into fundamental change this time.
Another Invitation
The CPoC has once again issued, what is for all intents and purposes, an invitation to the US to reopen ICBM program talks. Although they can, and no doubt will, use the “we haven’t asked them” spin O’Conners statements on Question Period can hardly be viewed as anything but a very public invitation.
Your CPoC Vote Gets You -
- a few intersting things, including:
Harper Sends An Invitation
I caught a Stephen Harper sound bite on the CBC last night that amounts, IMO, to an explicit invitation to the Bush administration to reopen ICBM Ballistic Missile Defense talks - the gist of it being that a CPoC government would not make any move on this program unless the Americans asked for negotiations to be reopened….
Canada, BMD, and the CPoC Position
Towards the end of last month I sent the CPoC hopeful for the riding I live in an email asking about CPoC policy regarding the American ICBM BMD program as a result of statements made by their Trade Critic (Ted Menzies) that he thought Canada should restart missile defense talks with the American government as a way of getting them to move on softwood lumber….
The Readership Has Spoken #5
The question was
The Bush ballistic missile project is
The answers were
60% A new way of attempting global dominance
28% All about defense
10% A mixture of offense/defense
00% All about offense
As with all previous official stageleft basement bunker unofficial polls the appropriate individuals have been advised of the results - in this case the email goes to the war […]
Is it really defensive?
Amid much hoopla from conservatives and US wannabes on this side of the border, much head shaking from Republicans on the other side of the border, and a bunch of inane mutterings about how Canada gave up its sovereignty by not agreeing with the US in this by Idiot Ambassador Paul Cellucci, we did not […]
Reading to them from “The Book”
Lloyd Axworthy (former Canadian Foreign Minister) has unloaded on the U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and her “divinely guided master in the White House”….. he pulls no punches and puts forward some ideas and a point of view that a whole lot of us, including me, up here share.
Now before a whole bunch of […]
Missiles for cattle
Over coffee this afternoon the conversation turned to Canada not participating in the new US missile weapons system. The theory that the cattle ruling thing was in response to our lack of participation, a theory that was laid to rest fairly quickly btw however crow (sometimes reader and even more sporadic commenter) and (a flash […]
Oh, THAT Sovereignty…
Paul Cellucci, the please-God-let-it-be-soon departing U.S. ambassador, today expressed his deep concern for…wait for it…Canadian sovereignty. Speaking with the imperial disdain that has won him the affection and respect of Canadians everywhere, he sniffed:
“We simply cannot understand why Canada would in effect give up its sovereignty, its seat at the table, to decide what […]
Talking points, but the likelyhood is slim
Prime Minister Martin has basically confirmed what we said in a previous comment on the subject of the new American weapons program
“I don’t think that anyone expected that there would be any other finger on a button than the Americans,”
We were a little more blunt
Do you seriously believe that if the system was […]
Good for him
Canada has said no to the U.S. missile defence program, Prime Minister Paul Martin announced Thursday.
The prime minister said the decision was made following extensive discussions with Foreign Affairs and National Defence.
The US reaction to the decision is predictable
“We simply cannot understand why Canada would in effect give up its sovereignty…”
Ain’t it so friggen […]
2 in a row
For the second time in a row the attack missile worked, the respose failed.
Weekly Poll
The question was
Should Canada participate in the American ballistic missile program?
And the answers were
64% No
25% Yes
09% Missiles?
The left side of the stage has spoken, the email has been sent to Prime Minister Martin letting him know what needs to be done, and the new poll is up.
