Subtitled: You had your say in the last election, now sit down and shut up until it’s your turn again

I’ve mentioned on numerous previous occasions that the old “if you don’t vote you can’t complain” line is a weak position taken to either try to get people to participate and/or to shut people like me up and/or to try and marginalize our positions. The fact of the matter is that if you do vote you have voluntarily participated in a system of choosing a government that, by extension, you agree to abide by the decisions of - in for a penny, in for a pound as they say….. and that’s the very position the Bush administration takes.

Today it dawned on me. My dog is a libertarian, maybe even an anarchist.

It’s a phrase that was used by upper-right-quadrant Glenn Beck in closing his show tonight, after a mocking tribute to Cindy Sheehan he said that she had every right to speak her piece about the government and the great thing about that is that “we the people” control it [the government], I don’t think so.

According to the Ottawa Citizen, “The Parliament Buildings are in such bad shape that a minor earth tremor or lightning strike could set off an avalanche of stone and brick….”

Under the proposed plan the mayor could declare “public safety act zones,” which would allow police to close liquor stores and bars, limit the number of people on city sidewalks, and halt traffic during two-week intervals. Police would be encouraged to aggressively stop and frisk individuals in those zones to search for weapons and drugs.
