Backup Site Reminder
A (not regular enough) reminder that the backup site for stageleft is stageleft.wordpress.com - should this site become unavailable for any reason you’ll find us there with an explanation.
Administrative Stuph
The amount of SPAM the filters is catching has passed the point of stupidity, at one point scrolling through a few hundred attempts in either the SPAM trap or moderation pen every couple of days to see if anything legit had been caught was reasonable - the numbers are way up from that and it’s hundreds [and hundreds] per day now so we’re going proactive as opposed to reactive.
Short Down Time
I just got an email from my host, they are moving stageleft to another server at 11:59PM (CST) this evening so we’ll be off line for a bit while that happens.
Downtime
Last night the server stageleft is hosted on experienced some hardware problems that took us off line, as always our hosting company was on top of things and got everything back in gear as quick as they could. Additional maintenance is […]
WP 2.0 Upgrade
With the Wordpress 2.0 upgrade came the Akismet plugin that checks comments against the Akismet web serivce to see if they look like spam or not… I’ll keep a close eye on the spam pit to make sure nothing that is legit gets sent there.
Upgrade complete - will get the theme stuff and the plugins back in gear - thanks for your patience.
Wordpress has released 2.0 - the upgrade is happening tonight, apologies if things happen to get broken for a bit :-)
Props For Balbulican
The good folks at the Daou Report took notice of balbulican’s Lose/Lose Politics: Building a New Enemy in Iraq yesterday and yet more records were set for daily traffic….. props are due dude ! […..]
Misc Stuph
I set up a new method of handling links today, that one column off to the right was just too long and left no place for the images that were on the previous site - I missed them. As part of the process I weeded out a few links for good bloggers gone blog-about and added a few that I have been slow to get up.[…..]
Default Layout Changes
One of the problems with any of the traditional layouts the basement bunker has tried is that the amount of content available on the opening page has always been limited to a few posts. The alternatives have, until this point, been marathon scrolling on a page 35 posts long or content that is relatively fresh falling off the bottom in the interests of a reasonable sized page - potentially before it has been seen, digested, and discussed….. and with two posters here now, and a third coming online in the near future we just couldn’t have that happening……
PSA (Or Something Like That)
Folks will no doubt be happy to note that the ramdon graphic code that lived at the bottom the comment box has disappeared - we’ve got a new gizmo for the SPAM-bots to play with now that doesn’t require the person making a comment to inconvenience themselves - enjoy (at least until the SPAMmers figure […]
Downtime
Our host is moving their servers to a new data centre on the evening of Sunday April 3rd. They figure 6 hours for the move so we’ll be off line for that period of time starting at 11:00 EST that day - I figure they’ve got all the bases covered but I’ll wish them good […]
New to the roll
JimBobby
What can we say? JimBobby is a fellow Canadian, has stopped by stageleft, has… ah…. an original writing style, and even though he seems to be somewhat to the right of centre (which may just be a front) he’s go’en on the roll as a daily read and finding a home in my RSS reader […]
Welcome to the blogroll
The Rude Pundit, here’s a sample
And the Rude Pundit is sick of hearing how “bold” is every fucking thing Bush proposes. If George Bush took a shit in front of the Lincoln Memorial, Orrin Hatch would appear on Fox “News” to declare how bold a shit it was and how mighty a loaf was pinched […]
That little graphic
In the continuing battle against the SPAM bots (that managed to get through yesterday and turn the stageleft comment area into an advertisement for a satellite dish network) we’ve implemented a ‘wee security step in the comments that requires a random code be typed in before a comment is accepted.
Apologies all over for the inconvenience […]
How did we forget that?
On January 21, 2003 stageleft pulled back the curtains at www.stageleft.blogspot.com… it was a very mundane post
Test Post - Please Ignore
Determining colour values and font attributes
I can’t believe I forgot to mention that as well as thank all the folks who make this place interesting and fun… a quick look shows that I didn’t post […]

The OpenPolitics libel case goes to trial October, 2008. Please support the defendants in this important lawsuit which threatens to make authors and publishers responsible for collaborative content and the political comments of others. You can read about it over at OpenPolitics.ca. Yes, it is one of the Crookes cases.

Make the Cheque out to the association, but mark the cheque as being for the Legal Defence Fund as related to the Crookes vs Holloway et al. case, this is the case Mark is in. Money sent here will get you a tax receipt but does not indicate support of the party or its' platform, or help fund the OpenPolitics case.
