Did you know, for example, that even a political finance shell scheme that some might consider fraud is actually an issue of free speech in Canada?  That bit of hack spin sounds like it came from the Conrad Black school of accounting.   Got scandal?  Insert “free speech”.

In a previous post on the Warman affair, I took a simplistic, perhaps vindictive, approach to the libel suit that now faces Kate, Kathy and Ezra Levant.

Free Speech Yawn of the Year

I support free speech. With that speech comes the responsibility not to slander or libel someone unless I can prove the accusation. If that fails then I better be able to back up what I said or wrote with my wallet. That is why this whole episode really makes me yawn. […]

It takes some pretty big stones (and ego) to stand up and say that “they’re wrong, I’m right” without anything to back up the assertion.

Silliest Motion Ever.

Has there ever been a more pointless, childish or ridiculous motion introduced the House of Commons? Help me, I don’t know for sure. Can anyone come up with one worse than this?

A motion condemning the other opposition parties for voting Paul Martin’s government out of office is the best that Dion and his advisers can […]

I have to admit to thinking that my colleague Balbulican has been a bit harsh of late with his new phrase “moronosphere”. Boy was I wrong.

They keep trying, you have to hand it to them, those dastardly deniers. Their sycophants just eat it up too. This is one of the best lists of TV Weathermen, pseudo scientists, energy company money beneficiaries and others just plain misquoted. It’s not surprising considering the author of the report. He’s […]

I was just watching the City-TV 6:00 PM news.  The leading story is a “shocking video” about “nine-year old kids mimicking their Junior and NHL idols” [to paraphrase].  The issue that is so important that it needs first story coverage?  Well, it seems a “line brawl” broke out between two teams in a recent Atom […]

The OpenPolitics libel case goes to trial October, 2008. Please support the defendants in this important lawsuit which threatens to make authors and publishers responsible for collaborative content and the political comments of others. You can read about it over at OpenPolitics.ca. Yes, it is one of the Crookes cases.

    Else, send a cheque to

    Cambridge Green Party Association
    104 Adam St.
    Cambridge ON N3C 2K6

Make the Cheque out to the association, but mark the cheque as being for the Legal Defence Fund as related to the Crookes vs Holloway et al. case, this is the case Mark is in. Money sent here will get you a tax receipt but does not indicate support of the party or its' platform, or help fund the OpenPolitics case.

When reading here you reminded of the words of Buddha: Believe nothing just because a so-called wise person said it. Believe nothing just because a belief is generally held. Believe nothing just because it is said in ancient books. Believe nothing just because it is said to be of divine origin. Believe nothing just because someone else believes it. Believe only what you yourself test and judge to be true.
