But before one is allowed to complete this sort of mundane task one has to agree to the following
By using this server, I hereby certify that I am not a citizen, national or resident of, and am not under the control of, the government of: Cuba, Iran, Sudan, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Syria, nor any other country to which the United States has prohibited export. I will not download or otherwise export or re-export the Programs, directly or indirectly, to the above mentioned countries nor to citizens, nationals or residents of those countries. I am not listed on the United States Department of Treasury lists of Specially Designated Nationals, Specially Designated Terrorists, and Specially Designated Narcotic Traffickers, nor am I listed on the United States Department of Commerce Table of Denial Orders. I will not download or otherwise export or re-export the Programs, directly or indirectly, to persons on the above mentioned lists. I will not use the Programs for, and will not allow the Programs to be used for, any purposes prohibited by United States law, including, without limitation, for the development, design, manufacture or production of nuclear, chemical or biological weapons of mass destruction. The “War on Terror” has obviously been extended to backup software hotfixes. I wonder, if in reading off the charges in some secret court somewhere on domestic, or foreign soil, or on a big ‘ole prison warship in international waters, if the special (and also secret) prosecutor tags on to the list of charges something like(emphasis mine)
And your honour, further to all other heinous and evil crimes, the defendant also did, with malice aforethought, download a Veritas hotfix used to backup a remote server that contained, or might have been used to store, or at the very least had the capacity to store, the chemical formula for….. at least it didn’t have the phrase ‘under penalty of death’ in there anywhere.MK77internationally banned weapons.

This is what I am talking about when I say things like the patriot act and the “war on terror” is more than what people take it to be at face value. It is more than just “protecting” people from the terrorist. All of this at a time when the right is so blinded with rage from the propaganda machine to kill em all and let God sort em out mentality. All waving their red white and blues, pasting their yellow ribbons and shouting “with us or with the terrorist” but none of them questioning “What is the definintion of a terrorist?” or “What is the definition of a terrorist attack?”
This is one shining example of how this so called “war on terror” has managed to creep into some of the most mundane things. So, it seems to be more about control of the information and keeping the avenues open for the rich to get richer, rather than “protecting” people. Sure, we are “protected” to a degree. At least the ones who have money to spend.
