As Above, So Below

Open your hymnals to “The Chorus of St. Stephen”, please. The choirmaster will take us through the first verse.

Conservative Laurie Hawn, the parliamentary secretary to the defence minister, dismissed the uproar Tuesday as opposition grandstanding and suggested the public doesn’t care about what happened in Afghan prisons.

Shall we begin?

Does anyone really give a damn that a few Taliban terrorist monsters got roughed up? Aside from the usual suspects I mean.

I think most Canadians share my unease with the media-opposition chorus cheering for our enemies. But I don’t think most Canadians are following the hour-by-hour political games in Parliament this week over terrorists we catch in Afghanistan.

I am one Canadian who is damned tired of listening to the hug-a-thug morons in Parliament drone on about whether the federal government had knowledge of supposed mistreatment of Taliban terrorists. The only people who care about this non-issue are anti-Western, anti-military statists who, to put it simply, hate freedom-loving people.

And the chorus goes on.

My preferred response to these folks is usually arrogant mockery (it’s the most annoying voice I can muster). But this new message has me a bit too angry. So let me sum up how I feel when I read stuff like that:

Go fuck yourselves.

You don’t understand why it upsets me that a cabinet minister lied, that a general either lied or was “misinformed”? It doesn’t ‘t bother you that a government you elected to increase accountability and transparency has just given the finger to Parliament? Twice?

If that’s all hunky dory to you, then your standards are in the sewer, and sinking every day you tolerate this crap. And that’s fine. In the name of blind ideology and mindless partisanship, you can set your own bar as low as you please.

Just don’t ever, EVER pretend you speak for me or for Canada. My standards, and my country, are better than that.

Nicely stated. People like Ezra and Arnie, even while frothing about their “right” to say bad things about brown people have no concept of human rights at all. Your examples really show their masks slipping yet again. They don’t even care that the country they constantly complain about, their country, could be construed as having committed a war crime over the detainee issue. They care more about having the fashionable ability to be politically incorrect and bigoted in their own dark little circles than the supposed cause we are fighting for in Afghanistan.

Exactly. All these torture apologists who say that Canada doesn’t care about this, well I’m prepared to see what this country is made of.

I would prescribe a course in Civic 101 to these ignoranti, but no doubt they’d start screaming about torture.

    Well and succinctly put.
If my country doesn’t care about this issue, then it’s no longer my country.

These self-centred morons are always speaking for everyone else. It’s fundamental to their world view.

I asked people at the local coffee shop what they thought about the torture of afghan prisoners, who were handed over by our troops.

The overwhelming response was: “We should leave and let them kill each other.”

There were “brown people”, “white people” and “yellow people”. There were NDP, CONs and LIBs.

I don’t know why anyone would be surprised at the ignorance of the masses.

For what it is worth it bothers me. Short of building our own prisons over there, I’m not sure what would lead to a better out come.

All governments lie at one time or another. For example, this is the anniversary date of when Chretien apologized for not cancelling the GST as he once promised to do.
And probably one of the biggest lies ever told by a politician was Ontario Premier Dalton McGujinty’s statement “I wont raise your taxes.” No wonder so many Canadians no longer vote.

Gosh, handing people over to be tortured is just like raising taxes when you said that you wouldn’t. Thanks for enlightening me, Undecided Voter.

“I don’t know why anyone would be surprised at the ignorance of the masses.”

“All governments lie at one time or another.”

    Lean in. Listen closely.

THAT DOESN’T FUCKING MATTER THE LEAST LITTLE BIT.

Wise man say, “You can pile sh*t only so high before it collapses in on itself.” Sooner or later, hopefully sooner, voters will realize that Harper and his gang that couldn’t shoot straight are headed for the trash heap of Canadian history.
