Levant and Free Speechers Swiftly and Firmly Support Greenpeace (any second now)

STAGELEFT, HOLD OFF ON PUBLISHING THIS UNTIL EZRA AND SHAIDLE AND ARNIE AND JAY AND OTHER FREE-SPEECHIES ACTUALLY ISSUE THEIR STATEMENTS…SHOULD BE ANY MINUTE NOW. THANKS! BALB

Ezra Levant today issued a strongly worded rebuke to the Government of Canada for its decision to ban Greenpeace logos from Parliament Hill.

“However much I may disagree with their political and environmental views, to ban the logo of an internationally known environmental group from the Hill is absurd in too many ways to count. But I am especially offended by this egregious assault on freedom of expression. We’ve fought for our collective right to publish offensive cartoons, queer-bash, slander Muslims, mock blacks and and Japs and Injuns, and otherwise uphold our proud national values; the notion that my government, in what seems like a fit of infantile pique, is now banning a logo, a picture, from Parliament Hill, the heart of our democracy, is appalling to me and to everyone who cherishes our precious freedom.”

Levant was joined at the podium by bloggers Arnie Lemaire, Kathy Shaidle, someone called Binks, and a woman on a motorcycle, all of whom nodded vigorously. Speaking for the group, Jay Currie stated firmly: “Yeah. Us too.”

Meanwhile the Speaker’s office clarified the new policy. “We’re not saying you can’t wear a Greenpeace T-shirt. We’re just saying you have to turn it inside out so the logo doesn’t show. Oh, and we get to videotape you changing.”

Oh man, this really gets me in my deference deficit (and I’m not talking Ezra, but that Yahoo report). Citizens are only “observers” when they go to the People’s House? That judgement passed by a public servant? Where’s my pitchfork?

I’m surprised Ezra isn’t loudly defending the rights of the people who want to protest against the Olympics in Vancouver. Your silence is deafening Ezra.

Well maybe they, Levant et al are following this
” Try as we might, we cannot address ALL the world’s ills in EVERY post. However, many of our more primitive readers seem to feel that our failure to repeatedly express our disapproval of horrors like traditional cliteroidectomy somehow…

They are probably confident that the squeals of protest against this silly ruling can easly be handled by others while they deal with the more insidious issues of these days. The ban is laughable and surely will be recinded as it is mocked mercilessly.

“while they deal with the more insidious issues of these days.”

Absolutely, I’m sure that’s exactly what’s going on. This morning Right Girl is worried about a tax on botox treatments, Shaidle is desperately trying to link Tiger Woods infidelity with both OJ Simpson and Barack Obama (they’re all black men, get it?), and Ezra is playing that ole “if you think Canada shouldn’t hand detainees over for torture you must HATE our troops” trope.

    Yeah, pressing stuff, for sure.

Ezra hit a new low today, even for him. Mouthbreather that he is.

If I were a Greenpeace organizer, I’d be printing cheap tshirts with their logo as fast as I can and handing them to everyone approaching Parliament Hill.

I don’t even know what the logo looks like, but if it features a seal being clubbed, I’d wear it to work every day for a week.

Careful. They might mistake you for an ambulatory menu near the Parliamentary Cafeteria.

So when there is nothing to criticise about someone’s acts or their politics – just make it up!

Do you even try to understand the concept of free speach?

    No, I don’t.

I’m pretty good on the concept of free “speech”, though.
