Debunking “Gravity”: Hitler and Newton
The Balbulican Lectures (Volume IX, PP 433-434)
…Although we cannot prove conclusively that Isaac Newton deliberately sought to destroy decency and promote Nazism, it cannot be denied that the application of his so-called “Laws” of motion and gravity (which are not actually “laws” at all, but simply theories) eventually led directly to our godless and allegedly “scientific” view of the universe, and thence inexorably to Nazism and the Holocaust.
There is absolutely no doubt that the Fuehrer was a devoted gravitationist – not only in theory, but, as millions know to their cost, in the rigor of its practice. Newtonism was embedded like a cancer in the “education” of both the Hitlerjugend and the German population as a whole. No alternative systems of thought were permitted: the imposition of Newtonism by tyrannical intellectual elites, from the Principia Mathematica to the “Laws” of Motion, was brutally and universally enforced.
The impact of this “scientific” brainwashing was horrific. It is no secret that every single element of Hitler’s terrifying war machine was based on pure Newtonism. From mortars to field artillery, from snipers to grenades, from torpedoes to V2s, the armies and weaponry of the German Forces that dragged Europe into the Hitlerian nightmare relied utterly on Newton’s “theories” relating to force, motion, momentum and gravitation. The shells that crushed Poland, the bombs that levelled Exeter and the bullets that slew thousands at Normandy were manufactured, aimed and fired by the ghostly hand of Newton.
It has been argued by Newton’s defenders that he was simply a scientist, recording observations and systematizing them into a model that was neither good nor evil, that had only the virtue of “truth”.
As to the first point, it is naive beyond belief to accept that so learned a man could not plainly forecast the fearful consequences of such “discoveries”. How can he then be held blameless for their application by evil men without sharing a measure of their evil?
As to the second point – the defense of “truth” – once again we find that the chimera of “settled science” disappears under scrutiny. Newton’s so called “laws” have not stood up to a century of quantum physics and relativity, and may well join his his “findings” in the areas of optics and alchemy in the rubbish bin of scientific history. Despite their apparent utility in certain settings (as the world discovered to its horror in 1939), that which is valuable in Newtonism is banal, while that which was once held in such high “scientific” esteem proves to be highly questionable.
But I shall leave it for others to continue the process of dismantling the tottering edifice of supposition, mysticism and speculation that is Newtonism. For myself, the fact that Newtonism fueled and empowered the most destructive men and movements of the twentieth century is enough to call for all reasonable men to reject it.
It is said that Adam introduced evil into the world through an apple. Only history will tell us if the falling apple that set Newton on the path to his infamous “discoveries” has wrought an equal, or greater, evil.

“Gravitation is not responsible for people falling in love.”
–Sir Issac Newton
Thus we see how, in later life, Newton himself came to have misgivings about the his theory. Had he lived longer and been able to pursue the implications of this insight, he would surely have seen that love makes the world go round, not gravitation.
One can only hope that he found insight and redemption in his latter years. When one considers his childhood threats to murder his mother and stepfather, his heavy debt to his intellectual predecessors, his disastrous errors in the study of light, and the utter absence of a comprehensive scientific model to explain his inane and commonplace musings on gravitation – really, it’s a wonder this charlatan had any impact on science at all.
One of the most maddening things about militant Newtonians is how they fail to see how the theory of gravitation is simply a tautology. You throw something up, God throws it back down. Throw it up again, He throws it down, etc. Like the man said anything we didn’t already know?
Exactly. Precisely WHY is this inanity held to be an advance on the model of Spirit Essences or Angelic Propulsion?
I know. The blasphemy involved in positing limits on Creation’s…err…creativity makes me shudder for where he is now. Plus as you point out, even his fellow followers of the Dark One are having second thoughts. Not that I would risk my soul on anything those heathens have to say, which also, by the way, is nothing we didn’t already know from the revelations of second-order scripture.
Author! Author!
I eagerly await the next talk in your series which expounds upon Hitler’s strict adherence to the heretical belief that the earth is a) round, and b) revolves around the sun.
No, Lulu, gravitation led to Hitler, but those beliefs explain Stalin.
Peter, I respectfully disagree.
Everyone who’s anyone knows that all scientific roads lead to Hitler — Stalin is merely a way station.
@Peter –
I thought that argument was resolved when it was discovered that the earth sucks.
I’m with Bugs Bunny and the Rhino Party! We should have listened to them a long time ago and repealed that damned law of gravity. Down with Newtonism! Up is the way to go. Let’s all get high.
Why are you picking on poor Newton?
The blame for those world evils the should properly be laid at the feet of Copernicus — don’t you know that that’s the very reason god told Hitler to invade Poland?
What a load of bollocks! Sheer pap, drivel. Care to explain how artillery predates both Hitler and Newton by, oh, several centuries? Same goes for mortars and grenades. But don’t let facts get in the way of silly rants.
MoS: Holy Cow, that’s true! I hadn’t thought of that! Well, that certainly changes things. Must reflect on this.
C’mon, balb, focus! If you can’t field this one, you’re not ready for Dawkins and Myers. How do we know the mortars and grenades that pre-dated Newton followed his laws.? Ask MoS how science can verify that through observation and experimentation?
Okay, I think I’ve got it.
Before Newton, they had artillery and mortars and grenades, yes. But they were never able to hit anything until Newton invented mathematics and apples and stuff. It was only then that cannons and guns and whatnot actually became useful. And from there – a direct path to the Fuehrer and the horror of Nazi Germany – ALL set in motion by Newtonism.
Copernicus
@stageleft – I’ll see your Copernicus and raise you a Galileo Galilei.
Peter, the artillery and mortars that pre-dated Newton didn’t follow his laws. He wasn’t yet in existance, ergo no Newtonian laws. The guy didn’t invent gravity or the laws of gravity. He simply observed, experimented and theorized.
Newton. Funny he never married…
“Peter, the artillery and mortars that pre-dated Newton didn’t follow his laws.” Exactly. That’s why they didn’t work. And then when Newton came up with the laws, they were all, like, “Oh YEAH!”
You all smoking up or something?
I thought Newton got most of his stuff by hacking Leibniz’s diary.
That’s no way to talk about your great great great great great great grandfather.
He wasn’t yet in existance, ergo no Newtonian laws.
You are making balb’s argument for him, MoS. If Newton has spent his time praying or drinking or wenching instead of dabbling in his materialist voodoo, there would be no Newtonian laws. Hence there would be no law of gravity. Hence no Hitler.
Isaac never had children.
Early in life he accidentally transmuted his testicles into lead in a failed Alchemy experiment. It was the incessant tug of gravity on his leaden balls that primed his awareness for the eureka apple moment.
The story in our family is that Isaac got most of his material from Leibniz.
Leibniz had accidentally left a large collection of papers in a For The Postman file which Isaac was able to access.
The hopelessly compromised state of Leibniz data was evidenced in one of the letters
“I cannot tell you how extraordinarily distracted and spread out I am. I am trying to find various things in the archives; I look at old papers and hunt up unpublished documents. From these I hope to shed some light on the history of the [House of] Brunswick. I receive and answer a huge number of letters. At the same time, I have so many mathematical results, philosophical thoughts, and other literary innovations that should not be allowed to vanish that I often do not know where to begin”
It has only become clear to me recently, thanks to that peer reviewed journal Wikipedia, that Leibniz’s scattered work (the Nachlass) was suppressed by both Hitler and Stalin.
This was clearly an attempt to keep the truth about Isaac’s plagiarism a secret.
Apparently the Holocaust was a ruse used to justify the dismissal of certain employees working on the cataloging process.
“The systematic cataloguing of all of Leibniz’s Nachlass began in 1901. It was hampered by two world wars, the Nazi dictatorship (with the Holocaust, which affected a Jewish employee of the project, and other personal consequences), and decades of German division (two states with the cold war’s “iron curtain” in between, separating scholars and also scattered portions of his literary estates).”
I’ve heard of people having “brass balls” but never lead.
As for setting dates for the invention of mortars etc… didn’t the Chinese invent gunpowder and rockets long before Marco Polo supposedly “discovered” the Middle Kingdom… and maybe even mortars and grenades? What is with these Eurocentric blinders y’all seem to be wearing? My cousins from across the land bridge were certainly far more advanced and definitely more civilized than that euro trash Newton and Hitler, both of whom probably would have been denied a place to park their trailers in any self-respecting Shanghai trailer park as they would have lowered standards so.
Harrumph.
My own take on this is slightly different; what do all of the great 20th century tyrants have in common? Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Pinochet, Bush – what is the common thread?
Government! They all exercised their tyranicity through government.
Get rid of government, you get rid of tyrants. Simple.
Oh my God. You’ve been talking to Stageleft, haven’t you? HAVEN’T you?
Sigh. Another fine mind moves to Hobbittown.
@balbulican: Yup, Throbbin is a bonafide convert b…. gone are the days of “we can fix it from the inside“, it’s just not possible — how long before you join us?
Oh, shortly after the time the guy with the pitchfork and brimstone aftershave takes up skiing.
I’m still a ‘change from within’ guy. Just poking some fun at SL.
