Heh
Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff promises a national child care program “if” he is elected as Prime Minister and “if” the government can afford it.
Does that sort of thing work for everyone?
IF stageleft is voted as Canada’s best political blog in the next round of blog awards, and IF I win the big lottery, we promise to fund a get together for all the bunker regulars, authors and commenter’s (even the ones we disagree with), on a warm island in the Caribbean in February.
That’s “a clear commitment” people, vote for us — local Caribbean brewski’s and munchies on the bunker !!

We’ve heard this before from the liberals and they have never delivered or said how they would pay for it.
Of course not, it’s designed to
We all know that if the Liberals form the next government (something that has about as much chance of happening as the Toronto Maple Leafs winning the Stanley Cup this year) we will hear an endless list of “the Conservatives and their wanton spending ways have tied our hands, we knew it was bad, but we didn’t know it was this bad, so……” — on any number of different issues.
Interestingly, Liberal Quebec has a childcare program. I think it’s the rest of Canada that fails to grasp the economic benefits of having a comprehensive childcare system. Of course, Quebeckers pay higher taxes. So the only reason we wouldn’t be able to afford it, is because the federal government would be too chicken to demand the money from taxpayers to pay for it.
Honestly, politicians are so lilly-livered these days.
Liberals 1st started promising a national childcare program in the 70s – those kids are now parents with no national childcare program, although how many times have the libs been in power?
LOL – libs need to give their lip service a rest – NOBODY BELIEVES THEM.
