Political Paleontology

A Montreal scientist thinks he can change a chicken into a dinosaur. Yawn. Been there, done that.

APTN License: The Dog Catches the Bus, and Then Asks – Now What?

In which a small regional television service morphs into a national network, surprising itself more than anyone.

The “Respectful” Right Dances on Ted Kennedy’s Grave

In which we seek out the views expressed on the passing of Ted Kennedy by those who lamented “leftist incivility” at the death of Robert Novak.

Birth of a Movement – Aboriginal Broadcasting in the Eighties

Land Claims and the Constitution grabbed most of the headlines in coverage of Aboriginal affairs in the 1980s. But behind the scenes an entirely new movement was taking shape- a national network of Inuit and First Nation film-makers, broadcasters, politicians and journalists coming together for the first time to create a new national voice.

How A Bunch of People Who Didn’t Know They Couldn’t Created a National TV Network

In five days the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network, the most distinctly Canadian network in existence, will celebrate its first ten years – a birthday that means a lot to the folks at the Bunker, for a lot of reasons. Here’s the first of a five-part crash course in how APTN came into being, and why it matters.

Headed North For A Couple Of Days

– leaving tomorrow morning, Internet connectivity is less than great on Baffin Island and I’ll be busy doing things and visiting people anyway, back Monday evening, y’all have a good week-end.

My Sympathy Levels Are Low

From the Stephen Taylor .ca facebook page

Stephen Taylor .ca: Meta-hypocrisy is accusing someone forced into a hypocritical decision — arriving at this point not by their own intent, but by the bounds of the imperfect system in which they find themselves and of which you’ve let fester — of something you would do unabashedly and without remorse. example – see Liberal talking points regarding the PM’s latest senate appointments.

It’s a really good line, one that I’m sure the party faithful will blindly parrot all over the InterTubes, but the the thing is…. Stephen Harper was not forced to do anything.

The Great Red Dumping Ground On The Hill

Subtitled: Time and power change all things

Rumour in the media and the blogosphere has it that Harper is going to announce another round of Senate appointments today – knowing his views on the Senate the bunker research team began scouring the news archives for what he’s said.

Little did we know the Liberals were 3 steps ahead of us and had already organized the goods in one place…… my favorite is

“Despite the fine work of many individual Senators, the Upper House remains a dumping ground for the favoured cronies of the Prime Minister.” (Stephen Harper Leadership Website, January 15, 2004)

In Other News – The Sun Came Up This Morning

A new study has found that

Nicotine levels are “strikingly higher” in smokers’ cars compared to non-smokers’ vehicles, and even exceed those found in public or private indoor spaces where tobacco use is allowed…..

As My Grand Pappy Used To Say –

– a poor excuse is better than none.

John Baird seems to have his knickers in a knot over the “political instability” a fall election call would create and the negative effect it would have on our fragile economic recovery.

Given that this is the same government that, not so very long ago, said that any talk of a recession in Canada was “stupid” and “ridiculous” my sympathy levels are low.

Summer Is Apparently Over

How’s that for ya…. the City of Ottawa has closed the beaches for the winter — I guess it’s time to yank the air conditioner out of the window, start banking the house, and dust off the snow tires.

This Road Trip Done – Another One In The Planning

Made it back to the bunker yesterday evening about 9:30pm – it was a long day on the road made longer because of construction, maintenance, and the general stupidity of other drivers.

12 hour days on the road give ya time to think a bit. I now offer, after watching a great deal of what happens on the roads, the great list of

New Voice at The Politic

In my never-ending search for a good Conservative blog, I’ve watched with regret the decline of the Politic over the last couple of years. It seems, however, that things are taking a turn for the better.

Yes, We Do Requests

Who cares about the fifteen books that changed your life? A reader requests your list of book that promised to, and failed miserably. Heh.

Hey, Remember When The US Won The Iraq War?

Too bad someone forgot to tell the other guys.
