Stephen Harper: You Can Dress Him Up –

but you sure as hell can’t take him anywhere.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper was forced to apologize publicly for attacking political rival Michael Ignatieff at the G8 summit over a quote that was wrongly attributed to the Liberal leader by a senior Harper aide.

So there’s Harper, at an international news conference held by the G8, they’ve been discussing global concerns like interdependent economies and climate change, the eyes of the world are on him, the who’s who of the international media are gathered around, and what does the hick from Calgary decide to do but take the opportunity to take national partisan pot-shots at the Opposition.

Does he think this makes him look like the big political man…. “look at me ma, I’m in another country insulting Iggy and everybody’s watching!!

Does the man not know that the rest world just doesn’t f*cking care what he thinks about Michael Ignatieff?

In addition to his apology to Iggy the man should go on Canadian TV and apologize for being a national embarrassment and then maybe signup for some evening “this is how grown-ups act in public” classes.

For the record, I vehemently disagree with Harper’s assertion that women have no place outside of the kitchen.

What’s particularly annoying is that Harper has publicly expressed far more contempt for Canada than anything in views he incorrectly attributed to Ignatieff. Remember his famous address to the Council for National Policy, a right-wing U.S. think tank…

First, facts about Canada. Canada is a Northern European welfare state in the worst sense of the term, and very proud of it. Canadians make no connection between the fact that they are a Northern European welfare state and the fact that we have very low economic growth, a standard of living substantially lower than yours, a massive brain drain of young professionals to your country, and double the unemployment rate of the United States.

In terms of the unemployed, of which we have over a million-and-a-half, don’t feel particularly bad for many of these people. They don’t feel bad about it themselves, as long as they’re receiving generous social assistance and unemployment insurance.

Yadda, yadda, yadda. That glass house you’re throwing stones in, Mr. Harper, is actually made of mirrors.

@balbulican – That Stephen Harper was killed and buried a long time ago. The current version is a doppleganger.

@balbulican: That quote shows Harper is a national hypocrite – not news, name me a politician that isn’t.

His idiocy at the G8 news conference shows him to be as un-statesmanlike under the international lights as he is in his seat on Parliament Hill – how many others G8 “leaders” saw this news conference as an opportunity to whine about their political opponents….. hummmmm?

How many others G8 “leaders” had to apologize for their conduct after the news conference?
