Fundamentalist Christian fears realized in German zoo: “Two gay male penguins have hatched a chick and are now rearing it as its adoptive parents, says a German zoo. The zoo, in Bremerhaven, northern Germany, says the adult males — Z and Vielpunkt — were given an egg which was rejected by its biological parents.”

Anthropormorphizing animals is just plain silly. Rutting animals who are so full of hormones that they’ll hump anything doesn’t make them “gay”.

As I understand it, the penguins, who did meet, it is true, in a bathhouse at the South Pole, exchanged phone numbers, then moved in together and adopted an egg. Sober, clean-living penguins they are now. “Rutting animals” is a homophobic slur. Please withdraw it.
@nastyboy: here now, that’s not very darned nice at all… these two upstanding members of the penguin community stepped up to the plate when a heterosexual penguin couple abandoned their egg and you reward their selfless act of adopting the unwanted off spring of others by calling them “rutting animals“?

I can live with this provided they don’t start giving defiant interviews claiming their relationship is more stable and loving that those of lots of hetero penguins they know.

See “Biological Exuberance”, Bruce Bagemihl’s fascinating look at homosexuality among animals. It will quickly disabuse you of the notion that there are no no gay animals.
