Quite frankly they prefer (IMO) citizens who do not know what the Constitution says, or what the Charter of Rights & Freedom says, because they ignorant are far more easily manipulated than the educated.

I would prefer people from any means who have at least read the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, the Federalist and Anti-Federalist papers, the amendments to the Constitution, and have a great sense of honor and duty within them. They could only serve 2 terms (1 for the Senate) and then they’d be gone. Hey! That’s it! Two terms only. For EVERYONE! But…isn’t that kind of unfair to the people who are doing a really good job? Argghhh!

In fact, the major arrests in Canada occurred using the good old criminal code and regular common law.

I doubt Harper or Peter Van Loan really think this law is necessary – but it’s always been their intention to make the Anti-Terrorism Act provisions permanent practice here rather than temporary abnormalities forced upon us by the war on terror. And it’s a good time to wave the flag about security, too. So why not a little harmless fun taking away our civil liberties?
