This Is One Of Them Lies I Told Ya About Yesterday

The author, Alex Felsinger, is apparently “primarily concerned with animal welfare” – and I’m guessing that little things like the truth play second fiddle to that concern.

His article @ Planetsave looks like this

We call that a “white coat”, it’s illegal to hunt them as part of the commercial hunt, it’s been illegal to hunt them as part of the commercial hunt for a long time now – so why is that image being used in the article?

The answer to the question is that they are hoping to deceive you…. no…. no…. that’s not quite right….they are purposefully trying to deceive you.

– why else is the image there?

Update

Well will you look at that…..

One blog post and a couple of comments later and the page looks considerably different.

Show of hands now – how many of us believe the ‘It was the first image of a grey seal that I found.‘ story — hehe

Ideologues don’t care about the truth, they only care about getting their way. Lying and fraud are merely means to an end.

And where exactly was that picture taken, a petting zoo? A seal with a white coat is generally trying to blend in with its surroundings, specifically the ice floe. I guess they haven’t evolved that ole captivity shade of camouflage yet.

I think y’all should head on over there and show the good Mr. Felsinger how much you appreciate him setting the record straight — me and Sofia are already there :-)

Whooee! I’m a big animal lover, too. I’m dang concerned with the mental welfare of my companion animal. ;-)

Right now, Ol’ Spot’s half outta his little mind on accounta we got us another dang squirrel scrabblin’ around in the walls. I wish the dang bushy-tailed rat’d show hisself in the livin’ quarters so’s Ol’ Spot won’t be so frustrated an’ climbin’ the walls.

Ol’ Spot’s stablemate, Ellie the Rottweiler-cross, comes home with Ma in the evenin’ an’ this here squirrel’s been drivin’ them two dogs crazy fer about three days. The critter’s been in the basement up til this afternoon when it moved into the dining room wall. I ain’t sure how it got in and it seems to have forgotten, too.

I got a live trap set with peanut butter but maybe he’s afraid o’ salmonella.

Haven’t been over there yet but are we also dealing with the usual lie/smear that seal hunters are just ‘inbred half-witted barbarian savages who just go out annually to get their rocks off by killing seals because they’re inherently violent people’? Or some such nonsense variation.

Sorry Alex, I don’t believe it, especially since I followed the link you provided and saw the image of a couple of adult seals right beside the one you chose to use initially.

Why not just fess up dude? The purpose of the image of the cute and cuddly white coat was to invoke a deeper emotional response in the reader than the picture of an adult would.

Most people still don’t seem to know that it is illegal to take baby seals in the commercial hunt, and you’re not actually saying that they do, but you are, in my opinion, leading them in that direction.

As I said in the comments section of your site… it’s all to common a tactic.

@Frank Frink – it’s essentially one of the ‘save the baby seals even though the baby seals aren’t hunted‘ spots that includes a video that starts with a baby white coat that doesn’t actually get hunted, but which does have high emotional value – which is the point of having it there.
