It also seems that many of us were pretty adaptable at finding work, any kind of work, to get by through the lean times. I think it’s pretty obvious that many started working early in life — paper routes, baby sitting, mowing lawns and shoveling driveways. It also seems that many of us were pretty adaptable at finding work, any kind of work, to get by through the lean times. So much for elitism among creative workers, eh :-)

I was also surprised at the variety -- people jump from white-collar to blue-collar, from accounting to the arts, etc. without a ripple. Obviously the "get out of school, get a job and keep at it til you retire" thing is the exception, not the rule, unlike the pre-boomer generation.
