Oh The Burning Hypocricy
Harper’s letter to the Governor General of September 9, 2004
As leaders of the opposition parties, we are well aware that, given the Liberal minority government, you could be asked by the Prime Minister to dissolve the 38th Parliament at any time should the House of Commons fail to support some part of the government’s program. We respectfully point out that the opposition parties, who together constitute a majority in the House, have been in close consultation. We believe that, should a request for dissolution arise this should give you cause, as constitutional practice has determined, to consult the opposition leaders and consider all of your options before exercising your constitutional authority. Your attention to this matter is appreciated.
(I highlighted the important part
in blue — appropriate ‘eh?)
How things change once the reigns of power are in your hands eh?
We’ve said it a thousand times before folks – the only difference is the colour of their ties.
Do you believe us yet?

Hahahahahahahaha. Perfect. That should shut the cons up for 2.5 seconds.
Now that should be the Coalition’s counter-attack ad this week.
Maybe Harper will say it wasn’t his letter, that some overworked gnome in his office cribbed it from John Howard.
Peter wins the thread!
I am eagerly anticipating the first “anyone with 1/2 a brain can see that it’s not the same thing” response….. it’s out there somewhere I’m sure, I’ll find it eventually.
Haven’t seen that one yet SL, but there seem to be lots of folks on both sides who are furious because what the other side is doing and saying is “profoundly undemocratic”.
Damn, I was trying to find a quote like that.
However, as I argue on your next post, I don’t think this is a good time for new drivers – who, other than McCallum & Dion, is left of the Martin cabinet?
As posted by Red Tory:
“That letter was signed by all three opposition leaders: Gilles Duceppe, Jack Layton and Stephen Harper”.
Um … “hypocrisy”.
But only Harper has done a complete flip-flop since then. So let’s emphasize that word “hypocrisy.”
Got it! John Cummins on the Christy Clark show this afternoon on radio station CKNW (980 am). While he didn’t actually say “half-a-brain,” he did say quite emphatically that it wasn’t the same thing.
