While most rational people already see that many rightwing pundits like Right Girl are divorced from reality many conservatives do not. Then there is the matter of rightwing pundits like Raphael and Ghost of a Flea, who until just recently were considered rational by many leftwingers when in fact they’ve always been raving nutcases.

Unfortunately the bar for tolerating rightwing idiocy is set pretty high and the only way it can be dealt with is to help push the rightwing pundits over the top and make sure that everyone witnesses them clearing the bar. This is exactly what Media Matters has done with US rightwing pundits and this strategy is beginning to bear fruit.

Look. In the real world, Wendy is a homeless, unemployed kid with a messed up life and some serious issues, reduced to begging online so she can buy the antidepressants she needs to function. She throws out hot button lines when she gets particularly desperate; that’s all. There’s nothing there. Think hard: have you ever, ever read a single original thought on her site? Ever?

But in this weird little neocon bubble world they’ve created to validate themselves, she’s a minor princess. Those little shreds of identity (I do a BLOG RADIO show! Mark Steyn once spoke to me!) help her hold it together between those episodes where she hallucinates Somalis chopping up Monte Solberg; and as James B. noted, the rage she generates (quite deliberately) delights her, and more importantly, defines her.

So be it. But let’s not be complicit anymore.

RG, your readers may “kick ass” because Stageleft clearly does, but the same can’t be said about yourself. You’re at least half of “kick ass” though.

As for the “handouts” I receive, they are given of free will, not extorted at the point of a gun, like the Injuns in Canada or the stupid government bailouts down here. Free will! What a concept!
