R.I.P. : Frank

The wake was last night and a good time was had by all who attended – the last issue was laid on the table in front of us for the night and we ate wings, and burgers, and fries, and kept the waiter busy calling for more beer in Franks honour.

The official announcement reads as follows:

Attention subscriber!

To our regret, we have decided to stop publishing Frank Magazine. Effective immediately, both the online efrank.ca and the bimonthly paper edition have been terminated.

Despite the efforts of our wonderful staff and contributors, our loyal investors and our dedicated subscribers, we could not achieve profitability.

My thanks to everyone involved with Frank over the past 19 years.

It has been a memorable experience, but it is now time to move on.

To efrank.ca subscribers, your Visa accounts have been closed.

Please direct all inquiries to 613-567-2552.

Er, that’s it,

Isn’t this the second time Frank has shut down? Perhaps it can rise, if fine George Romero fashion, from the publishing grave one more…

They shut down repeatedly. One of their strategies to avoid liability was to reincorporate with every issue. But this looks like the final stake through the heart (to employ a seasonal metaphor).

I read Frank a few times. I found it was more mean-spirited than witty. Good riddance to bad garbage.

I think it’s a great pity that Canada doesn’t seem to have a satiric tradition in print. I think Frank was a attempt, and sometimes a brilliant one although not nearly often enough. People are way too polite toward those with authority, subservient even. More of their beards need to be yanked. More of their crotches kicked. More farts aimed in specific directions.

    R.I.P. Frank.
