OBAMA BIN BIDEN Can the Obama campaign fail to have noticed this little branding problem? Reader Tom Scott writes,

Last night my wife mused that the Democratic ticket sounded like Osama bin Laden. Took me a second, then I understood.

Obama Joe Biden

Obama and Biden

Obama bin Biden

Osama bin Biden

Osama bin Laden

No wonder people hate elections, there are just not enough descriptive adjectives to properly mock that sort of stupidity.

– sheesh already…. just sheesh.

And that’s why the blogosphere works, Kate would possibly say. A big blog like hers finds quality links and makes sure a wide range of people see them.

*I just threw up in my mouth a little when I said “quality links”*

Did you not laugh (and laugh, and laugh) over the wit exhibited by this PSA — why after reading it I chuckled (and chuckled, and chuckled) for almost -.05 seconds

I hate to admit it, but I put Obama bin Biden together almost immediately. But perhaps that’s some sort of odd word association skill I have…

  5. vonrock on August 28th, 2008 at 12:01 am

How can you NOT make that connection? If Bush ran with a guy named Burn that would be noticed. If McCain was running with a guy named Fry, a connection would be made (at least in Canada). So, why would you not make a word association connection to this?

Actually, the more I see it, the more I think of what a marketing mistake that is, especially in the biggest popularity contest in the free world. Maybe it will be better if they put “the” in front of the whole thing.

How can you NOT make that connection?

Because the minds of sensible people are usually occupied with other things and not humming with a cacophony of pops and whistles that results in “Obama bin Biden.”

The minds of sensible people? Sounds like a bit of a superiority complex to me, but thanks for taking time out of your sensible thoughts to reprimand me on my cacophony of pops and whistles.

Sounds like a bit of a superiority complex.

Oh, c’mon. A tossed salad couldn’t help but feel superior when confronted with “Obama bin Biden.”

  9. balbulican on August 28th, 2008 at 12:26 pm

A superiority “complex” assumes that there is a delusional aspect to the assertion of superiority.

So, answering to trolls on this internet blogs is something that fills the “minds of sensible people”?

Doesn’t sound sensible to me, but that damn circus music keeps drowning out my thoughts, so what do I know?
