Sternly Worded Memo To Follow

Dear CBC National and CTV NewsNet:

If I want to watch American news and events I will turn to CNN, or Fox News, or one of the many other American cable stations that come into my apartment on the wire.

I do not expect to tune to the 10:00PM CBC National edition and see the the “National News” has been replaced by blow by friggen blow analysis and discussion of the speech that Hillery Clinton is expected to give to the DNC sometime within the next 30 minutes as the lead…. followed by the speech itself.

It is not “National News”.

I also do not expect to tune to CTV NewsNet (because there is no friggen news on CBC) and find exactly the same friggen thing, punctuated by little bits and pieces of Michelle Obama’s talk to the DNC last night – I didn’t watch it then, and I am not interested now.

Quite frankly I could care less what Hillery Clinton has to say to the DNC, is there absolutely nothing of importance happening in Canada today?

  • Nothing about the Governor Generals being politely asked to stay home for the next little while?
  • Nothing about the leaders of the various political parties ramping up the election rhetoric?
  • Nothing about a Prime Minister getting ready to sidestep the legislation he fronted just a year ago?
  • Nothing about “delayed” or canceled election promises?
  • Nothing about Arctic sovereignty?
  • Nothing about carbon taxes at home and how they will affect the common folk?

I have been forced to turn to Green Force (a community gardening show on HGTV) and will tune to the Comedy Network at 11:00PM to catch The Daily Show – no Canadian content there either, but at least it’s palatable watching.

I think it is fairly safe to say that Canadians watch the Canadian news for Canadian content, and on this night we are not amused.

In the future please guide yourselves accordingly.

Well once in a while, they mention us in passing. And when they do, it thrills me to the bone. How pathetic is that?

You are spot on with your complaint. We should be able to have a choice to avoid the US political news saturation.

BTW, I just recently noticed that 5 minute window of opportunity to edit comments posted. A good feature. Wished more sites had that.

No Canadian political content on the CBC = fewer charges of bias from their Conservative overlords. Expect more stories on the cute goings on in rural Canada (Mark Kelley is warming up in the bullpen) and many fewer political stories.

I agree that the DNC should not be the BIGGEST NEWS, especially not the ONLY NEWS, on cdn news stations. But this is a momentous occassion: the first viable female contender for top job in the world, throwing her considerable support behind the first black to man to run for it.

Tune in tonight for more no-can-con as Bill grudgingly eats humble pie.

I will not tune in tonight either, there’s gotta be something else (as long as it’s not the NFL) worth watching.

I suddenly remembered (some of) why I don’t watch Tee Vee. Uh.. unless it’s hockey.
