The Sentinel Explains It All For You

I don’t get into arguments with the Sentinel anymore. As one of our readers drily asked, “how many wings can one fly have”? But I still read his site for amusement, and am occasionally rewarded with gems like this, in which Scenty explains that Nazis were left wingers because they use violence and right wingers don’t so therefore they must have been left wingers because…well, I really can’t improve on his analysis. Here you go.

Nazis aren’t “right-wing”. They were socialists/statists. Left-wing means socialist and statist. The Nazis were therefore “left-wing”. Right wingers don’t use violence to govern. They use democracy and the rule of law. Left wingers find democracy and law to be inconvenient, so they find other means, no matter how unethical, immoral, evil, to achieve their agenda in governance. That said, if a so-called “right-wing” government were to become statist and socialist and/or to choose to kill or censor (via “human rights” bodies, etc. or ambiguous “hate crime” laws wholly open to judicial “interpretation” or what the Nazis did, or the Soviets, the Islamists do, etc.) people who oppose their agenda, then it becomes Left-wing.There clearly must’ve been some things the Nazis/”Aryans” saw in the also-leftist Communists/socialists who weren’t necessarily “Aryan” and who probably refused to become members of the Nazi Party. It doesn’t matter if they were all leftist- they could’ve still had stark differences, therefore the Nazis decided to be the only “national socialist workers’ party” in the country, with the difference of “Aryan” supremacism taking precedence over everything, the whole Germanic-stuff-and-people idea, and the Commies/Soci’s may not have shared Hitler’s goal of world domination for “Aryan” Germans. Hitler obviously wanted only one party, his own, to rule Germany and take over the world. He likely saw the Commies/socialists as potential roadblocks in the way of his goals, so he sought to get rid of them, as inconvenients, even though they shared his statist agenda in basic terms (that’s “leftist”- statism, basically, though it doesn’t necessarily have to include pure state control of all economic activity- it can permit non-state entities to run economic entities, like the Chinese Communists do today, with strict control and absolute reservation of right of dictation to said entities however they see fit any time they wish).

Bonus – Scenty has announced he’s considering writing a book. Also, nominations open this week for the Bulwer Lytton Award. Coincidence? Surely not.

“Right wingers don’t use violence to govern. They use democracy and the rule of law. Left wingers find democracy and law to be inconvenient, so they find other means, no matter how unethical, immoral, evil, to achieve their agenda in governance.”

    Fascinating.

So the right-wing governments that Ronald Reagan supported in El Salvador and Guatemala – the military juntas that refused to hold elections, that killed hundreds of thousands of Mayans to smoke out insurgents in the highlands – were actually LEFT wing, right? Except that they were being supported because they opposed communism and supported Reagan and US intervention in Cuba and Nicaragua, weren’t they?

Really, some of these people are too stupid to live. Does this Sentinel actually manage to feed himself?

The appropriately monickered “Scenty” probably also believes the world is flat, aliens built the pyramids, Jews control the world economy, there was second gunman in Dallas, the CIA arranged for 9/11, “terra nullius” is a valid concept, pulling out before ejaculation is a valid form of birth control, AIDS is God’s curse on homos, Africans, and druggies, smoking pot inevitably leads to harder drugs, you can’t become an alcoholic on beer, rock and roll is responsible for society’s ills, and Conservatives are progressive thinkers.

Scenty has just added some additional thoughts on what “leftism” is. To summarize:
    - leftism is anything that is bad.
    - bad is anything that Scenty disagrees with.
    - people who can’t grasp that are leftist.

Quite right. It was the commies, secretly acting through their dupes, the Islamofascinazis. Try to keep up, Shmo.

It’s fairly easy to make a good case that the Nazis were “socialists/statists”, but it is simply not true that no right wing governments have been equally authoritarian or despotic.

Really, right or left in this debate is just a troublesome nomenclature because the Nazis had malevolent facets of both going full tilt.

There’s never been a shortage of ideological dictators on either end of the so-called “left-right” spectrum.

In any case, Sarah needs to take off her ideological blinders and read more.

I take it that you’re OK with that the rest, and it can stand. Phew.

It just knocks the stuffin’s outta ya, trying to find any coherence, logic or reality inside the mind of a Scenty. Balb, I have no idea how you does it day-after-day, month-after-month. Must be that lead-lined football helmut.

Acchhhh…not Sarah…I meant the ideological blinders should come off the person Sarah and everybody else was quoting: Sentinal.

    My bad–musta been something I ate in the 60s. Sorry Sarah, I’m so ashamed :-}
