I’ve never used a bivy sack before but the carry limitations of my new motorcycle forced me consider it this summer, and I think I’m gonna be quite satisfied with what I got.

This it the Outbound Hooped Bivy Sack I picked up this afternoon. I discovered completely by accident that Le Baron was having a one day tent sale so I went out and found this little gem (that comes with a lifetime warranty btw).

Spec’s

  • 35″ wide,
  • 92″ long,
  • waterproof/breathable top panel,
  • polyurethane coated nylon bottom,
  • zippered entry on both sides,
  • a front panel window so I can see the sky even when I’m zippered right up,
  • a big no-see-em mesh top panel for those nice nights when I don’t need the waterproof cover,
  • additional no-see-em rear panel for additional ventilation, and
  • a nice little aluminum hoop to give me some head space.

– best of all it only weighs 2.65lbs and rolled up is so small that I can fit it, and my sleeping bag, into a 15″ x 10″ carry bag (with room left over for extra socks and a couple of t-shirts), with my sleeping mat rolled up between the carry straps.

I’m not even gonna notice something that small and light bungee corded on to the seat behind me, and given that I have a decent sized tank bag this little beauty is gonna allow me to go on some nice camping trips this summer.
