Is it just me (as in, am I an arsehole), or do the constituents gathered in that photo in the Star look like complete rubes?

Bernier: I screwed up, I didn’t know what I was doing.
    Crowd: Yay!! Woohoo!! Yay!! (whistle!)
Bernier: I have resigned my post, due to my incompetence.
Crowd: Right on!! Yay!! Woohoo! Yippy!!

I guess you had to be there.

jonZor, it’s The Beauce. No one in Quebec nor anyone who, like me, was born and raised in Quebec is the least bit surprised by that.

So what exactly does that mean, Frank, for us non-Quebecers? I know where the region is, but not enough about its culture to get it.

Well, my most heartfelt apologies to les Beaucerons for calling them rubes. In true Canadian fashion, I hope I haven’t offended anyone.

    Eh?

Oh, you misunderstand me. There most definitely is a rube-like quality to Les Beauceron.

In short, small-town traditional. Conservative religious values. ‘Hard working free-enterprisers’. ‘Folksy’. This is THE non-urban region of Quebec where people are far less likely to think of turning to the state for problem solving and where private enterprise is the solution to everything. They think NAFTA is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Possibly the only real anti-souveraigntiste pocket, although solidly 100% Francophone, outside of Western Quebec and the Montreal area. Would vote Conservative federally even if the party ran a flowerpot as a candidate.

Oh, wait. They did run a flowerpot. The Berniers are like local royalty.

The Beauce in many ways is like a slice of Alberta, without the oil and the English language.
