This We Already Know

The United States tortures prisoners in violation of international law, former President Carter said Wednesday.

“I don’t think it. I know it,” Carter told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer.

This is not news, we already know that the United States of America tortures prisoners.

Jimmy Carter saying that the United States of America tortures prisoners is much like me saying that the sun is shining over Ottawa today – both statements are simple, non-debatable, facts.

We have seen graphic images of prisoner torture, we have seen the reports from those who either saw it or suffered through torture, and we have seen the oh woe is me pleas from those who engaged in it and are now suffering the mental consequences of their actions.

The official George W. Bush administration line is that they do not torture but that they do engage in water boarding, and they have embraced what they call “enhanced interrogation techniques” which we know have killed prisoners.

Carter also said President Bush creates his own definition of human rights.

– and water flows down hill.
