When will they figure out that this sort of thing is not the answer?
…..a public education campaign will be launched to convince people not to buy black-market smokes. Day says the campaign will tell people that buying contraband gives money to organized crime groups and funds the drug and firearms trades.
What does the government expect when they over tax the crap out of something anyway?
Who didn’t see a black market developing?
Years ago.
Here’s another question for ya, how many smokers currently buying cheap smokes on the black market are gonna hear, or see, one of Stockwell’s carefully scripted little propaganda pieces and say:
“Gee, I really shouldn’t do this…. I’m gonna throw these nasty organized crime supporting, drug and firearm encouraging things away right now and go buy some commercial smokes at $10.00 a pack instead of $13.00 a carton and support my government — right after I call the police on my supplier — so I can feel good about myself again !!”
Dig yer head out of yer arse Stockwell, it ain’t gonna work.
You got one choice and one choice only - lower the taxes.

” buying contraband gives money to organized crime groups and funds the drug and firearms trades.”
And dropping the taxes on tobacco and alcohol or legalizing drugs for that matter would mean that those things were no longer contraband, so the flow of cash to organized crime would dry up.
But we keep making the same mistakes over and over. This is at least the second time that we have gone through the tobacco tax/contraband smokes thing in Ontario. There must be contraband lobby groups at work for this to make sense.
