For reasons that make no logical sense at all the Guardian has chosen to title an article about shark attacks “Surge in fatal shark attacks blamed on global warming“, but if you read the article itself the only reference to global warming (a phrase which I am coming to loath btw) it says

Another contributory factor to the location of shark attacks could be global warming and rising sea temperatures.

— somewhat different from what the title indicates isn’t it?

Apparently not one to let a chance to score some anti-climate change propaganda points fly by Blogging Tory GayandRight does up a Yes, shark attacks now blamed on global warming…. post and links the article with the line

Geez…just how much can they blame on global warming???

– and further misrepresenting an already misrepresented piece of information.

If you bother to read the article you find

The one thing that’s affecting shark attacks more than anything else is human activity,’ said Dr George Burgess of Florida University, a shark expert who maintains the database. ‘As the population continues to rise, so does the number of people in the water for recreation. And as long as we have an increase in human hours in the water, we will have an increase in shark bites.’

(emphasis mine)

Seems like a pretty clear statement to me - and it has nothing to do with global warming which “could be” related to global warming climate change, but with which both the Guardian, and GayandRight, chose to lead with.

I know why GayandRight engaged in the misrepresentation - it’s a political partisan thing, the question is why would the Guardian?
