The CBC, and many hockey fans I know personally, are lamenting the Habs being tossed out of the play-offs by the Philadelphia Flyers last night on — oh the horror — Canadian home ice no less.

Quoth the CBC

With the score tied 4-4, Flyers forward Scottie Upshall re-directed a point shot past goalie Carey Price at 16:56 of the third period to break the hearts of Montreal fans and eliminate the top-seeded Canadiens from the post-season.

The 1993 Habs remain the last Canadian team to win Lord Stanley’s Mug.

Montreal’s loss also means the Stanley Cup final will not feature a Canadian team for the first time since 2003.

Scottie Upshall? Not little Scottie Upshall from Fort Mcmurray, Alberta, Canada? Do tell ……..

Listen up here lads, and lasses, it may have been 15 years since a Canadian team won Lord Stanley’s Cup, and it may be the first time in 5 (long?) years since a Canadian team made the finals, but you can bet your collective pay cheques that it’s been a very long time indeed since any Stanley Cup finals, or any Stanley Cup winning team, had no Canadian content.

So if that’s what it take to float yer boats, buck ye up, find yer favorite Canadian player that’s still in the race, put on yer game faces, and enjoy the game - the bunker is currently backing the Penguins…… which may, or may not, have something to do with the logo that appears on his monitor when he boots up each day ;-)
