An article in the aggregator about General Petraeus being appointed to the head of US Central Command, not because of his ability to defend ‘lil Georgie but because of the paragraph that said

It also gives Vice President Dick Cheney greater freedom of action to exploit the option of an air attack against Iran during the administration’s final months.

I can think of no better way to skew an election than to organize a few air strikes against Iran during the last few weeks of the campaign. Not an all out invasion mind you, just “sending a message” (you know that would be in the speech don’t you?) with sufficient ammunition and rhetoric to make the guy with “battle experience” look more attractive during a “time of conflict” than say, anyone else?

The media would be far to focused on aircraft carrier night landings, stealth aircraft with laser guided bombs, and the presidential rhetoric about brave men and women in uniform keeping America safe from the threat of nuclear war, to worry about little things like the message of a presidential hopeful not currently of the ruling party now wouldn’t they?

Just something to keep in mind come next October.
