Actually, I thought it was funny. It’s pretty clear the cabbie doesn’t understand and the apparently bored soldier is just joking around. Wear a seatbelt? Drink milk?
You’re reading too much into it.
It was a joke. Maybe a stupid one, but a joke all the same. Conducting operations in a forward area means your dealing with moments of fear, interspersed with long stretches of mind numbing boredom. Dark humor is a coping mechanism.
