I remember reading years ago that the house inhabited by the Homolkas had been razed to the ground - not sold, not just demolished, but essentially ploughed under. The council was a bit vague on why, but the reason was clear; their property was viewed as cursed. No-one used that word, of course.

We are no so far from the fear-filled ape cringing at the onset of nightfall as we think we are.

Candace: I know what you mean, and certainly I understand the decision from practical point of view - anybody interested in purchasing that property is probably NOT someone I want for a neighbour.

But the article and accompanying articles made it clear this was no business decision - this was frightened primates fighting bad juju.

Nope. As a Christian, no celebrity-status exorcist (not that I’d actually recognize one if they actually exist) could cleanse the place to the point I’d live there. As a half-baked, half-practicing, half-not-so-much, again, nothing could make me live there.

So why keep the building there? A Canadian Madame Tussaud’s? How revolting. A halfway house for who? ex-cons? the walking wounded that are Canada’s answer to closing mental health wards across the country? WHO? WHO in their right mind (oh, wait a minute, let’s revisit the halfway house idea?) would live there?

Knock the place down, have every friggin’ priest from every Christian sect, every imam from every Muslim sect, every Rabbi willing, every Wicca whatevertheycallthemselves, etc. do their version of a blessing, cleansing, whatever on the land, and plant a bunch of wildflowers.

Don’t put a playground there. Don’t raise a memorial. Just let it sit there, empty, for a century or two, and STILL I bet no one would want to live there.
