He’s not gonna give up, so what’s the answer - more sanctions that don’t hurt him, or…….

A bullet between the eyes works for me.
The message from Downing Street would probably be some offer of asylum. On the one hand, that is a disgusting option. On the other, it might work and therefore be a good idea.
On the face of it a quiet assassination sounds like a good idea, but then what? The police and the military install a new strongman and life continues as usual - not necesarily what one would call a positive outcome.
Asylum for Mugabe somewhere far away? A better solution if the police and military allow the MDC to form a government and actually govern - who is taking bets that happens?
Thanks skdadl

I thought 007 retired and wasn’t replaced due to budget contraints

Wouldn’t it be in the best interest of other African leaders to intervene?

It always gets more complicated when you move past the rhetoric.
Indeed it does Kevin, but the question is one I would really like an answer to.
Assassination: Already discussed, not a reasonable option unless the MDC is allowed by the military and police to form a government and actually govern. Chances of that appear slim.
Economic Sanctions: Yeah right, people like Mugabe are gonna worry about that, or even be affected by them. We’ve already seen what happens when sanctions are levied against countries like Iraq and North Korea - people suffer, governments eat well.
Invasion: Recent history tells us that that’s a tactic that works if you want to kill off a bunch of the population and destroy the land and infrastructure.
Leave the guy there and hope it eventually works out: We all know how that’s gonna turn out don’t we. There would appear to be two likely outcomes to that
(1) Nothing changes
(2) Guerrilla tactic based civil war
It would appear that, as detestable as it may be to reward such behaviour, the best option may be that offer of asylum and a lavish life at someone else’s expense with some sort of international mechanism in place to ensure that the the military and the police don’t get it into their heads to take over.
Doug, in their best interests? As defined by who? It assumes a level of international compassion that certainly isn’t evidenced in the western world, why should they be any different?

Heidi Holland is quoted as saying in reference to Mugabe “If he got a call from Downing Street, as odd as that may sound, that would answer his prayers now, in a way. The guy is really quite precariously balanced.”
I am not familiar enough with the story to understand why this would be the case but it seemed to be the only possibility with hope of a positive outcome.
What message would the call from Downing street need to convey?
