Banning Snow Angels? PC Gone WAY Too Far

I know that as a card carrying lefty, I’m supposed to wave the banner for equal consideration of everyone’s feelings. But to be honest, this particular incident is way too silly even for me.

On January 11th, 2008, nine-year old Martena Schaumlauffel of Viscount Alexander School did what any child would do after a snowfall. She laid down in the snow and made a snow angel.

Unfortunately for Martina, she was observed by Mr. and Mrs. Terrence Danic, the parents of another child who had arrived at the school to pick up their child. These parents were atheists.

They approached the principal of the school and insisted that this “snow angel” be expunged, and that Martena be disciplined for producing what they called “exclusionary, Christian-centric imagery in a publicly funded space.”

According to the Cornwall Standard Freeholder, the “snow angel’ was in fact wiped out by the Vice Principal, and Ms. Schaumlauffel has been asked not to produce any further “objectionable” renderings of “Christian Iconography”, under threat of suspension. The Danics, however, have issued a statement indicating that they are considering a complaint to the the Human Rights Commission.

Now, look, folks. I’m an atheist too, and I don’t care who knows it. But come on – a kid producing a “snow angel” is not making a theological statement. She’s just playing in a snowbank. Can we please all just get a grip?

Well, as I’m sometimes loathe to admit – even we in the left have our Cdn Sentinels…

Speaking of Scenty… the paranoid part of me has just kicked in and is now worrying that this may be an April Fool’s prank….

Maybe I should just shut up…

You know, as an atheist, that is the silliest thing I have ever heard. Moron’s like Mrs Terrance Danic give us a bad name. There is no reason behind that, except the desire to have every person believe as Danic does – EXACTLY the same thing the religious right and the fundies do.

Mrs Terrance Danic is a twit.

Kids playing in a snow bank…get over it.

I read about this in February at Kateland’s site and I couldn’t believe it. At that point they were just starting to talk about a HRC complaint. I could see Muslims getting upset about this, but atheists? Talk about Ironical!

  4. Mike on April 1st, 2008 at 9:17 am

Why would Muslims get upset? They believe in angels just as Christians and Jews do. In fact they believe in the SAME angels. Wasn’t it the Arch Angel Gabriel that appeared to Mohammed?

Anyway, this particular person is being a twit, and that is from a fellow atheist.

Muslim “angels” aren’t the same as Christian angels. Muslim “angels” are actually “dybbuks” or devils. This is very well known to those of us who study the Koran for its REAL meaning. Plus Muslims aren’t allowed to draw pictures. A snow angel would infuriate them because first of all it’s a picture of a devil.

And again, guys, take note of the date.

I believe because it’s exactly the kind of thing those Islamofascinazihomocommunivillains would do. And because it’s exactly the kind of thing they would do I believe. Plus it’s in the paper.

I don’t know whether it’s true or not, but if everybody who thinks I’m a blight upon humanity bought a copy of my vanity press musings, A Caustic Toidylass, I would be able to blog full time and could quit my job at Harveys.

Of course it’s true. It’s a bad story about people we don’t like, isn’t it? Truth, ipso facto.

I have mobilize my cadres, and we will be making snow angels in any snowbank we can find. Damned atheists. Damn Muzis. Excuse me, are those my meds?

I”m with you, Smell Dad’s Enemas! Who do they think they are?? They’re attacking our fundamental right to religion by attacking our kids!! That’s why I took all of my kids out to the yard in the front of their school, and we all plunked down there in the schoolyard, and we all made angels.

Of course, there’s hardly any snow left (but more than a bit of mud). But we showed them bloody hypocrit leftards. And for only $5, you can download pictures from my website. Just send me email, and let me know how many?

I have set up a foundation for the Support of Oppressed Snow Angel Makers. Not quite sure how I intend to spend your donations, or on what, but you can send me money and I promise I might figure it out at some point, maybe.

Whooee! We’ve had a lotta meltin’ here in the banana belt the past week, or so. The kiddies switched over to Mud Angels. Mud angels offend my Gaia worshippin’ cult. All them muddy clothes gotta go in the dang washing machine.

Balbul states: “..this particular incident is way too silly even for me”. yeah, that speaks volumes. Good to know you are not a total ‘moonbat’ as Sentinel would say.

So, this story was in a Jan 14 newspaper issue. Anything to update? Did the twits just slink away? Dead issue now? Or is there a ban on snow angels?

I actually have family in Cornwall (my home town, in fact) which is partly why this caught my eye. Spoke to my sister at noon to find out what was going on. According to her, the Schaumlauffel family, who are Lutheran, are claiming that the image wasn’t supposed to be an “angel” at all, but a “princess”. The whole thing is complicated by the lack of evidence which, of course, melted.

How ridiculous. The Danics really ought to get a membership in a gym, or something, to give them a legitimate reason to get worked into a lather. And isn’t there a law that prevents grown-ups from terrorizing a child?

Snow angels aren’t Christian iconography or any other iconography. Angels aren’t confined to religion.

    Just ask any Broadway producer.
