Just what is it with the Brits and their big brother practices anyway? In addition to their government trying to fingerprint everyone who lives in the country and sending people and families to respect camps if they, in the opinion of the state, exhibit anti-social behaviour, their airport authority now wants to fingerprint and photograph everybody going through the bloody airport.
[Heathrow Terminal 5] Airport operator BAA plans to take four biometric fingerprint records and a digital photograph of every passenger who passes through the £4.3bn terminal - which opens on Thursday (27 March).
The plan aims to improve security by ensuring that the person boarding at the gate is the same person who checked in and passed through security checks - a function needed because international and domestic travellers will both use the same airside facilities.

What’s next… excuse me sir, one more thing, could you show us your left cheek sir, no, not that one sir, your other cheek sir, that’s a good lad, injecting this teeny tiny RFID unit won’t hurt a bit, and it is for your personal safety sir, enjoy your stay in the UK.
Jeeves, please scratch Britain off the list of places I used to want to go.

I don’t understand the thought process in Britain around these over-the-top security measures. In the US, The Patriot Act and related shenanigans were a direct reaction to 9-11. But the Brits have been on this course for ages before that.
