So Thats What It Looks Like

As someone who doesn’t believe we actually live in a real democracy, or even a real representative democracy, I’ve commented a few times (here and elsewhere) on what I think a real democracy looks like – The Decider has a different take on things.

One of us thinks that it’s a system of governance where the people have an actual honest to gods say in their affairs greater than deciding who will be told how to vote by the party that manages to gather the greatest minority in the last election by promising things that they will not deliver on…..

– and George Bush thinks it looks like a comma.

CNN had aired an interview with President Bush conducted by Wolf Blitzer, who asked about the latest setbacks in Iraq and indications that civil war may be at hand. Bush, with a slight smile, replied, “Yes, you see — you see it on TV, and that’s the power of an enemy that is willing to kill innocent people. But there’s also an unbelievable will and resiliency by the Iraqi people…. I like to tell people when the final history is written on Iraq, it will look like just a comma because there is — my point is, there’s a strong will for democracy.

(emphasis mine)

I suppose if we dug hard enough, and deep enough, we might also come across ‘lil George’s explanation of exactly what he meant by his democratic comma, but it would probably be equally incomprehensible so we’re not gonna bother.

Republicans must be so proud.

Too many “m’s in “comma”. We were obviously all in a stupor.
