The voter turnout numbers from yesterdays four byelections are in - and they are impressive.
- Toronto Centre: 25%
- Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River: 25%
- Vancouver Quadra: 27.9%
- Willowdale: 33.9%

“I think it’s really a decline in interest in general,” said Barry Kay, a political scientist at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ont.
How about we call it an increase in dissatisfaction with the system — hell, lets call it a really (really) loud “silent protest” .
Byelections always draw fewer voters, but Monday night’s turnout is at least 10 percentage points below the norm.

I was really proud that the turn out numbers have been so high in the primaries here in the US. I think it’s the first time in about 40 years that people have candidates they feel strongly about. Give us something real to vote on, and we do.
