Many (Well, TWO) Happy Returns!

These are dark and desperate times for bloggers. “Outing” opponents while smirking from a throne of smug virtue is the new bloodsport. The moronosphere tumbles further and further into frothing, inarticulate irrelevance. The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity. (Hey, that’s GOOD. I must do something with that.)

They say, however, that glimmers of distant sunlight penetrate even the Stygian depths of the darkest ocean. And in this winter our our discount tent, there are at last faint glimmers of hope on the horizon. Two fine bloggers are shrugging off their extended hibernation and returning with the lengthening daylight to shed their wit and insight on a blogscape too long bereft of their presence.

Welcome back, Occam’s Carbuncle, the unsparing and acerbic. And welcome back Voice in the Wilderness, returned from noble service at the much respected Pogge. You have both been too long away, and blogdom is a richer, brighter place for your return.

Nice to see Tim back – I think he will need to dust off the old blog after 3 years (hard to believe it has been that long)

As for our favourite curmudgeon OC, it’s nice to see him back; hopefully it will be for the long term. His “pointedremarks” stint didn’t last very long which was a shame as he had some fine writing therein.

As someone who has become quite disillusioned with the blogosphere, even I’m surprised at the depths things have fallen too the last couple of weeks. I just don’t see the point of it all – most are acting like kids on the playground. Oh well, if we ignore them they just go away right?

Without trying to sound old and er, um, conservative, Peter, Tim and OC are class acts and are part of a generation of bloggers who are above the sort of stuff that has been going on of late.

    Hey TH,

In no way was I referring to Tim or OC, whose stuff I’ve never really read. I was making reference to the other bloggers who are dominating these days and engaging in idiotic and childish activities.

Peter: Remember Sturgeon’s Law. 90% of everything is crap.

Bloggers whose intent is to raise blood pressures and their own profiles are getting a bit tedious to me too. Bloggers whose intent is to raise interesting issues and the level of debate have always been a minority, and that’s to be expected. I’m just glad because two of the latter have just back to life.

Is it not a little mean spirited to welcome repeat offenders back to the yard just because it makes recreation time more fun? ;)

Well, I haven’t posted for a couple of weeks for this very reason. Lots to say, but really, to disgusted to say it, since I don’t expect reasoned debate any longer.

Mike, you would fall into the “Best lack all conviction” category…an honourable if depressing classification.

Why hasn’t anyone outed me yet? Am I not cool enough?

  10. balbulican on March 6th, 2008 at 7:21 am

Nonsense. You are protected by our collective terror at the monumental rage and awesome technological ability that we all know lurks beneath that friendly Saskatchewan exterior. That, plus your power to make or break us in an instant through the Canadian Blog Awards. May I get you a coffee?
