Last year I wrote a cute post around this time of year about smelts - how they surge down the Spanish River in a brief two day run, how you gotta be there with a net to catch them, and how everything else in your life takes second place during those two days because if you want to catch smelts, you have to be there.
I was actually writing to apologize for not being more active at Stageleft, and to explain that this time of year - “fiscal year end” - is when dozens of my clients call with year-end money they have to spend, projects they have to finish (or start!) before April 1st, or the last input I needed to get their work done by the termination of their grant. But a lot of people thought I was talking about smelt fishing.
So this year - no cute metaphors. Friends, I’m gonna be really busy making money, and I won’t have time to write much. I’ll be back up to speed in April. Love and kisses, yer pal Balb.
