Out of the blue this morning, I received the following email from an Obama supporter. I had to share. Spelling etc. are exactly as I received the email. Her last name and email address are being withheld for obvious reasons:

One of Scenty’s most distinctive features as a blogger is a kind of dishonest, selective gullibility. If a source echoes his own peculiar world view, he’ll echo it uncritically, framed, of course, with one of his patented, hysterical Red-guard style rants. It doesn’t matter if its absurd, unsubstantiated, or simply nuts: if it sounds like it was written by a mildly brain-damaged eleven year old neocon, Scenty will swallow and regurgitate it.

There seem to be an awful lot of really stupid conservative books out there these days, and with unnerring accuracy, Scenty has discovered and is promoting one so idiotic it has so far escaped notice by anyone whose reading has progressed beyond “The House At Pooh Corner”. (That’s POOH with an “H”, Scenty…don’t get excited, big guy.)

The book is called “The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness”, by Dr. Lyle Rossiter Jr., and it explains that “liberalism” is actually a form of mental disorder. It was actually published two years ago, a fact that seems to have escaped Scenty, who describes it as a “credible new book”.

I’m guessing that Scenty hasn’t actually READ this book, since he doesn’t like to “read long things”. His post is limited to excerpts from a review in one of his favourite source, WorldNetDaily (a hilarious publication that has previously reported that Noah’s Ark sparked global warming, and announced the finding of a colony of Bigfeet (Bigfoots?) in Malaysia.)

Dr. Rossiter, it seems, is about as credible a source as WorldNet Daily (or Scenty). Although characterized in the review as a “top”, “acclaimed” and “veteran” psychiatrist, Dr. Rossiter’s resume lists a grand total of total of three (3) publications, one in 1966 and two in 1991, for the DuPage County Bar Association. That’s it.

From his resume, he appears to be, essentially, an “expert witness” for hire, whose website advertises his availability to plaintiffs, defendants who need to buy testimony about fitness to stand trial, mitigating factors, and suchlike.

Now on the to the Good Doctor’s Thesis itself, which he conveniently summarizes for our perusal as follows:

The Liberal agenda preys on weakness and feelings of inferiority in the population by:

-creating and reinforcing perceptions of victimization;
-satisfying infantile claims to entitlement, indulgence and compensation;
-augmenting primitive feelings of envy;
-rejecting the sovereignty of the individual, subordinating him to the will of the government.

What an interesting assertion. So in the view of witness-for-hire Rossiter, these four characteristics are distinctly “liberal”.

Of immediate note is the mixture of political drivel with “psychological” jargon – “victimization”, “infantile claims to entitlement”, “primitive feelings of envy”, and so forth. You can almost see the Doc in the witness box, dazzling the folks in St. Charles, Illinois.

But let’s for a moment pretend to take these points seriously, as though they actually had meaning. If these are characteristically “Liberal” traits, then of course one wouldn’t expect to find them on “conservative sites. Let’s pick the first point and go hunting, shall we? Let’s see…can we find any examples of “creating and reinforcing perceptions of victimization” among conservative bloggers?

Gosh how about this:

You can babble about Shakespeare and make fun of and demonize conservatives all you want! (Canadian Sentinel)

Or this:

“This is scary. What does this mean, that the government actually has no intention of arresting its most wanted criminal enemies? Does political correctness and Liberal Fascism/dhimmitude have anything to do with this?” (Canadian Sentinel)

Or this:

“Christians are offended by this hate speech against them, at least those few who’ve heard of it. So, where’s the equal justice? What’s next, jackbooted minions of the Leftist state appartus are going to go around breaking windows of businesses owned by Christians? Will there be unflattering cartoons of Christians posted all over the place? We gonna have a Christallnacht? It’s not unprecedented, after all, for such to happen, and much, much worse!” (Canadian Sentinel)

Or this:

“We are underdogs. We are freedom fighters. Those who dismiss us, ridicule us, attack us, prevent us from exercising our rights… hate freedom and hate us, or are at least misinformed, misled, by extreme fascists masquerading as aggrieved persons and groups and by the mainstream media. If we don’t fight, we will end up in submission and servitude, denied our guaranteed rights, and such a prospective reality is intolerable!” (Go ahead, guess who. C’mon, guess!)

Holy cow. Talk about ‘creating and reinforcing perceptions of victimization’! And what a shock – our own Scenty, a closet liberal…as diagnosed by a Really Important and Famous Psychiatrist!
