Why Can’t I Do That?

Two cops pull up to a coffee shop…….

– and park both their cars right in front of a no parking sign, walk across the street to a Tim Hortons, sit down, have their coffee, and then expect me to be concerned about laws I find inconvenient?

I think I’ll keep this one in my cell phone for the next parking ticket I get. Instead of paying it I’ll take my day in court, and when the judge asks me “What made you think that it was OK to park in a no parking zone?” I’ll whip out this picture and show it to him.

Code Pinko vs. Move America Forward

Now is the time to fight back. If you have to wear pink just to get in under cover, do so. They are on to our plan to show up on the 12th. They are planning to stack the deck by having all code pinkos sitting in those chairs. DO NOT ALLOW THIS …

Thy do that regularly too. I see it at least 2 or 3 times a week outside of my office building.

Next time bring a digital camera, so we can later zoom in on both the license plates and the no parking signs.

Are there not exemptions for police and fire services to certain parking laws?

I’m not offended that they disobey parking laws, I am offended that they’re living up to such a blatant stereotype. At least go to someplace good. Tim Hortons? Pu-lease!

“Are there not exemptions for police and fire services to certain parking laws?”

In some jurisdictions, but not all.

Fire vehicles are obviously exempt from prohibited parking in fire routes – police cruisers are not exempt from this in likely most jurisdictions for obvious reasons.

A police cruiser blocking a fire route is blocking any access that a fire services vehicle might need to have in an alarm situation.

This is especially true today in many areas where some cops used to use the excuse that if they heard a fire alarm, their first priority would be to take the elevator down so they could move their vehicle.

This however is in reality, unlikely in many places where modern elevator systems bring elevators down to the ground floor during a fire alarm for the safety of all in the building, and to give access to fire officials to elevators upon their arrival.

    Interesting, thanks Ian.

I think they should be bound by the same rules that I’m bound by unless it is in the performance of their duty – and getting through red lights at the expense of others on the road by turning on the roof rack ‘just because they can‘, and setting up shop in no parking zones so they don’t have to walk more than half a block for their coffee ‘just because they can‘, is not in the performance of their duties.

“Do as I tell you not as I do” is not something I was happy with as a kid, and I’m no happier with it now.

I was under the impression that the only time the cops could disregard signs such as the one displayed was during an emergency. Who would’a thunk it.

I would be very surprised to discover that they could ignore parking signs unless there was an emergency…. but who’s gonna give them a ticket?
