It’s hard to imagine but apparently it’s so, there are Canadian Republicans - in Oakvillle, Ontario.

President Bush will deliver his last State of the Union speech tonight. After 8 years, Bush remains low in the polls after alienating many Republicans (myself included on just about everything but foreign policy)…..

(emphasis mine)

If Strong Conservative had said he was a [r]epublican I wouldn’t be making this post as, as with many of my political bent, I have more than a few [r]epublican tendencies.

….. alas, those [r]epublican views may now be threatened by [R]epublican insurgents who have made their way to Ontario - who would have guessed Oakville as their first objective?

As for the SOTU, I didn’t watch it, well, other than flipping over to CNN during the commercial breaks during Tap Out, I figured I could read it just as easily sometime today.

Once again the mutterings had little or nothing to do with the actual state of the union and a whole lot of self-back patting on the part of the Bush administration…. as one Lou Dobbs listener said prior to its’ broadcast

“Groundhog Day and the State of the Union address. One involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to a creature of little intelligence for prognostication, while the other involves a groundhog.”

During the Tap Out commercial breaks I did learn that

* Bush wants to ban any human cloning, but he didn’t say why - so I’ll ask, “why should cloning of humans be banned?

* Bush told the American people that they need to trust their scientists, the bunker agrees, but isn’t that more than a bit of a hypocritical statement for a homophobic creationst like Bush to make…. trust them when it suits his purposes, but demonize them as godless, secularist, liberals bent on ruining society as we now know it when you’re told to.

* Bush considers the chamber he spoke from to be “hallowed” ground - how about that ‘eh?

There was probably more to learn, but listening Bush mutter for an hour or so just didn’t interest me.

I’ve been sick for the last few days (hence the light blogging) and looking for interesting shapes in the mounds of balled up kleenex I have amassed since Friday would have been a more enlightening experience.
