US to Israel: Avoid Gaza humanitarian crisis.
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Tuesday she had spoken to the Israelis and urged them to avert a humanitarian crisis in Gaza where Israel implemented a blockade on fuel and electricity.
Israel to world: We won’t let it become a humanitarian crisis.
“We will not permit, under any circumstances or conditions, a humanitarian crisis to develop,” Olmert said
Egypt to world: It is a humanitarian crisis.
Egypt does not intend to shut off the wide-open Rafah border with the Gaza Strip, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced early Thursday.
An Egyptian spokesman told CNN that the border will remain open “as long as there continues to be a humanitarian crisis in the Strip.”
The head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency in Gaza, John Ging, commented, “We are teetering … on the brink of a catastrophe.” The agency announced Monday that it would have to suspend its food aid to 860,000 Gaza residents by later in the week if the crossings from Israel into the Strip were not unsealed.
Amnesty International pointed out that more than 40 seriously ill patients had died “since the Israeli authorities closed Gaza’s borders, so denying them access to hospital treatment abroad, but now the entire Gaza population is being put at risk as electricity and fuel supplies run out.”
It’s had not to ignore the fact that Egypt made its’ statements after “gunmen destroyed about two-thirds of the Gaza-Egypt border wall”, and I have no doubt that they will use this as stick to beat Israel over the head with - remember what I said about everybody in the region using the Palestian people as pawns in pursuit of their goals? Here’s another example.
The next question that arises is that if 40 seriously ill people did die as a result of the Israeli government closing the borders to fuel shipments and humanitarian aid how will they be counted in the ever growing conflict body count? Will they be listed as casualties? Or will they not even count as collateral damage in the record books of history?
– and what, you may be asking, is Prime Minister Harpers’ position on this issue?

In addition to this strongly worded statement new images of Stephane Dion were uploaded to the Conservative Party of Canada website.

LoL. Quoting Trotskyites. Followers of the guy who murdered at least hundreds of thousdands civilians as part of the red terror. Makes sense, they would be world best experts on collective punishment.
And naturally ANOTHER STAGELEFT LIE: 40 seriously ill people did die as a result of the Israeli government closing the borders to fuel shipments and humanitarian aid
The source [already a pressure group] says: “40 seriously ill patients have died since the Israeli authorities closed Gaza’s borders”
See the difference? Let us give Stageleft the benefit of the doubt. Let us assume it’s not an intentional lie. Let’s be kind to him and assume he can’t speak English that well. Dear Stageleft: “Since” is not quite the same as “As a result of”. English isn’t my second language, but even I know this.
Here is a simple calculation for you. Gaza has a death rate of 3.74 deaths per 1000 population (2007 est). Not directly relevant, but for general knowledge Syria has 4.74 deaths per 1000 population per year (2007 est). So the rate of Syrian Holocaust is 27% higher.
Those of us who have been to school and don’t have alterior motives will be able to follow this simple calculation.
Gaza has 1.4 million people. Assuming the same deaths rate as in 2007 in Gaza, 3 days of closure would result in … 43 deaths of seriously ill patients.
Clearly, Israeli government’s closure of the borders has saved 3 seriously ill patients.
Isn’t it amazing how incredibly stupid Israel-haters really are.
