“Freedom requires religion.” Nice ring to it.

War requires peace. Freedom requires slavery. Love requires hate. Something like that.

Atheists are not free - they are bound by the laws of rationality and logic.

I also wondered about Romney’s speech. As a mormon, he believes that the indigenous peoples of North America represented the armies of darkness - the armies of Satan himself. Where does that leave me?

Whooee! We godless atheists get no respect. When is there gonna be an atheist elected president?

Some bigass qualifications fer US president:
– Be religious, extremely preferrably Christian protestant.
– Believe sincerely that the USA is the best country that ever was and ever will be.
– Be tough enough to be willing to send 18 year olds to die to prove that the USA is the best country that ever was and ever will be.
– Believe it is America’s God-given right to plunder the world’s resources just as long as it benefits the best country that ever was and ever will be.
– Be male and over 40.
– Be telegenic.
– Love the flag at least as much as you love the country itself.
– Be big-business friendly. Embrace the oil economy.
– Look squeaky clean while letting others do the swiftboating.

Whooee! Righty-O, Niles. Obama ain’t got a chance. It may be either Hillary or Obama running against a Repug in 2008. If so, they’re gonna lose. Merkans ain’t ready fer a woman or a black man runnin’ the show. Some are, o’ course. Not enough to make it happen, sez I.

English-only as a campaign issue is a new risin’ star. Sheesh! Even Bush campaigned in Spanish. The Merkan response to complicated problems has historically favoured isolationism and protectionism. I think that crosses party lines — not that there’s much difference between the Dems and Repugs.

No matter who wins in 2008, expect continued Merkan intransigence on the environment, climate change and trade issues. One would hope a Dem pres wouldn’t rule out negotiation as a diplomatic tool like Bush has done so there might be a few less invasions or occupations.

If Al Gore runs and wins by a sizable majority, my faith in America the Beautiful will get a big boost. The likelihood of that is quite low. So’s my hope for a new, improved USA under any of the current contenders.
