We enter now into the season of love, forgiveness, renewal, and the usual seasonal conservative handwringing over the impending demise of Christmas at the hands of God-hating secular humanists, atheistic MSM, and devious multicultural forces who hate all that is Good and True About Our Civilization.
As I said last year at this time:
I haven’t noticed it. I usually say Merry Christmas to people, and not once has anyone ever snapped at me “It’s KWANZA, honkey mufuh!” Last year I attended two school pageants, one here in Ottawa and one in Northern Ontario. The Ottawa one was called a Christmas pageant, and had Jesus and Mangers and sheperds and all that good stuff: the northern Ontario one combined Christian, Aboriginal and Hanukkah images and songs (reflecting the makeup of the school).
However, for the last few years, the Christian Hyperconservative blogs (you know, the kind with piglets on them) have seethed and frothed with rage at the impending triumph of secular demons over God Fearing believers. Typical of that set is the following gentleman, who huffs:
Last night, I received a letter from MS (Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada). I opened it up and started reading about their 2007 HOLIDAY Campaign. Right away, I looked at the labels that I knew they were giving me and I saw Christmas decorations on the address labels. You know sleighs for Santa, Christmas presents, Christmas wreaths and so forth. I told my wife, that’s it, I’m going to send them a note telling them what I think about their HOLIDAY campaign. I wrote them this letter:
Hello, I have received in the mail, a campaign form . On this form it states, Holiday Campaign and then there’s some Christmas decorations on the address stickers. I’d like to know why you removed the word Christmas from your campaign? As a Christian, I am very offended by this and I’ve decided not to contribute to your organization because of your intolerance towards Christians. So long as organizations such as yours who remove Christ from Christmas, you will lose donations that you could have had. I hope you reconsider, in the spirit of Christmas. Thank you.
Looks like these anti-Christian types are starting early, well, so am I. I’ll let you know if I receive a response.
(Ponder that, if you would. A secular, not-for-profit organization, doing a mass fundraising mailout to a cross section of Jews, Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, atheists, Pagans, Shinto, and others, refers to “holiday”, instead of either (a) choosing ONE of the holidays that occur in December, or (b) listing ALL of them. And because of that, this Christian gentleman is going to refuse to donate to an organization dedicated to saving lives. Yes, that makes sense. I could see Christ endorsing that approach. Not.)
Well, here at the Bunker, we like the idea of people of any religion celebrating their beliefs, and we don’t have a problem with Christians calling Christmas “Christmas” at all. I personally refer to December 25th as “Christmas” all the time.
Last year we announced the Official Stageleft Christmas Health Monitor. We invited all those folks who felt that their right to celebrate Christmas as they see fit was being crushed to let us know, and collected their evidence for the persecution of Christmas.
And guess what? The official results are here, but the bottom line: no war on Christmas. After a month of monitoring, we found two (2) incidents, BOTH of which were resolved in favour of “Christmas”, thanks in part to the intervention of organizations like the Muslim Community Council, which urged an Ontario court to restore a Christmas tree (which it did).
So let’s do it again. Let’s hear from the folks who claim that Christmas is under attack by the forces of Islam or Atheism or Raging Buddhists. Here’s the request:
Please inform us of any instance in which Christians are prevented from celebrating Christmas as they see fit.
Here are a couple of guidelines, though.
1) You don’t get to complain when an institution decides to recognize or celebrate other festivals in addition to Christmas.
2) You need to provide a source.
3) It doesn’t count if public tax dollars are denied in funding Christmas activities or displays; the public purse belongs to the public and is secular.
4) We’re talking about Canada here.
Go nuts. If Canadian Christians are actually being denied their right to celebrate Christmas, we want to know.

Hilarious. Down in the comments section of his post, the blogger you quote says:
“I see the removal of our Judeo-Christian values as a problem.”
I wasn’t aware that Jews celebrated Christmas. Live and learn, I guess.
