I take it you’re calculating Samhain as a lunar festival…and for a void moon?
We as a society don’t seem to use the lunar/solar calculations anymore, now that we’ve got the artificial measure of calendars. Trying to figure out when Easter is going to happen is bad enough. If we had to do it for every festival, we’d probably stop having them.
Aren’t we a lazy bunch?
Given that the culture, from the evidence we have, marked the passage of the year by the moon it would make sense that their festivals would be held based on the appropriate phase of the moon…. it was the only calendar that they used.
Since we are also aware (from various sources) that the culture marked the dark half of a day as coming first, and the dark half of the year also as coming first, when else would Samhain begin except during a dark/new moon?
I know that many choose to mark events based on the modern calendar, but there are still few of us traditionalists left :-)
Seriously though SL, you should be able to request those holidays….as long as you work through the Christmas break.
I, or anyone else for that matter, could do exactly that Throbbin… as a matter of fact it’s something that I have done before, and will no doubt do it again.
You should have to work through the Christmas break though SL - to be fair. And Easter.
