Who’s Surprised?

The State Department promised Blackwater USA bodyguards immunity from prosecution in its investigation of last month’s deadly shooting of 17 Iraqi civilians, The Associated Press has learned.

I’m not surprised.

Millions of refugees forced to leave their homes, more millions inside the country displaced by the war, the destruction of billions of dollars of property, the destruction of a priceless history, over 100,000 dead men, women, and children, untold numbers of the maimed, the wounded, and the crippled, emotional scars that will last for generations, disease, poverty, starvation, homelessness, environmental destruction and contamination….. there are so many examples of how human life, and the quality of that life, in Iraq has such a low value for America that anything other than an immunity deal for their mercenaries would be the real surprise.
