Awh, They’re Not Best Buddies Anymore

The British Prime Minister announced a withdrawal of troops from Iraq, the White House announced they’re not best buddies any more, and started crapping on their performance - all we’re missing now are the threats of consequences.

The White House no longer views Britain as its most loyal ally in Europe since Gordon Brown took office and is instead increasingly turning towards France and Germany, according to Bush administration sources.

[ ..... ]

“Operationally, British forces have performed poorly in Basra,” said the official. “Maybe it’s best that they leave. Now we will have a clear field in southern Iraq.” Another White House official described Mr Brown as “challenging” and far less close to the US than Mr Blair.

Imagine that ‘eh…. the people who initially believed in this failed adventure are now just a bunch of under achieving f#@k-ups who didn’t know what they were doing?

We probably shouldn’t be surprised at this, the world was been given more than adaquate warning with how they treat their vets who don’t walk in lock step with government policy.

    Here’s the bit I like:

‘…and is instead increasingly turning towards France and Germany…”

The poor URQs are really getting a workout these days, aren’t they? When France and Germany declined to support the US invasion of Iraq, they had to convince themselves that France had “always” been an enemy of the US, and we witnessed the hilarious spectacle of “Freedom Fries” and “cheese eating surrender monkeys” and the like. I can’t wait to hear them start explaining that France has ALWAYS been the US’s best friend (an argument for which there’s considerably more evidence than the first premise, going right back to the Revolutionary War).

It’s all a bit reminiscent of World War II, when Russia started off as an evil partner of the Nazis: Stalin had to be quickly re-branded during the war as kindly old “Pappa Joe” when they were on OUR side; and then, of course, he was transformed back to the incarnation of all evil after the war.

    Kudos to Brown.

I don’t really think about Britain too much, but reading this makes me think Brown is better for the world than Blair!
