Screwing up Canada?
I stumbled upon an interesting exercise in blogdom this morning. “Spinks” has created a list of the top 101 Canadians who are “screwing up Canada”. While he offers little to no explanation as to what that phrase means, he has put an incredible amount of work and time into compiling the list. It is his, with input from some of his readers and he is unapologetic that it is decidedly from a conservative perspective. He makes a well thought out case for each choice even though the usual suspects of liberal politicians, media and the judiciary rank highest, a constant almost cliche bugaboo with conservatives.Â
The #1 person who is screwing up Canada in his estimation is due to be relesased in the next couple of days.

I have to stay away from this sort of thing. Last time somebody did this (and published it in the States), we all had to debate the merits of Linda “you’re not living right, and therefore are a waste of education” Hirshman.
Really? This is the first you’ve seen of it?
I discovered it somewhere in the 80s (the numbers, not the decade). I don’t always agree with his choices (although probably a lot more than you), but I agree that his arguments are usually well-researched and well thought.
And it is, after all, his list. I don’t have the time or energy to create my own so tend to leave the critiquing and arguing with him to a minimum.
This is really and truly the first I have seen of it Candace. I guess I haven’t been spending enough time in the blogosthingy lately.
The guy’s far too 1950’s “Father Knows Best” or “Waltons” for my taste.
He has certainly done his research, and to his credit, hasn’t done as much spinning as I suspected he’d do.
Aside from the universal choices like child molesters and killers… it tends to be more a list of “The Top 101 People I’d Like to Have a Drink With”.
He’s pretty quick to assume that when someone disagrees with him that they’ve fallen prey to the leftist group think of the MSM, etc… so in that it’s kind of the same old saw. “If only people knew the truth” sorta stuff.
His top two of Suzuki and Morgentaler certainly lit up the site for a while. Again, kind of the same old arguments. Not stopping a good lather, though!
Either way, good for a laugh or a shake of the head.
He lost me on Morgentaller (sp), although he makes a detailed argument. I’m curious to see who he puts in the “Top 10 helping/fixing/whatever Canada” – he didn’t include either Harper or Dion in the original list as they are too new to the scene, but feels he lumped them in with Parliament, so I guess that eliminates them from the Top 10 as well. (I’m pretty sure Dion wouldn’t have made that list, based on the slant, nor should he IMHO.)
